Any way we can fit in a walk in larder?
Hi,
We are getting our kitchen fitted in and I was really hoping we could get a walk in larder, but unfortunately it doesn't look like it's possible. Anyone have any ideas on if it may be possible and where? I really wanted it directly off the kitchen so I don't have to walk too many steps (currently a larder cupboard right at the end of the utility but I really want a walk in please). Many thanks!

Comments (11)@ManAboutTheHouse Thanks got the comment. I agree about moving the staircase, that would complicate things. There isn't standing height under the current (stupid) staircase, so I don't think we could put a toilet under there as it is. We're pretty sure the drain runs from the back of the house down the porch side, but obviously we need to confirm this. Current porch extends out 1.02m, wouldn't want an extension to come out any further than this because we'd like to keep the 80cm side access to the garden. It's 2.36m wide and we could go up to another 2m either way, giving us at least 6m, if we wanted. I'll attach a google earth image, so you can see the house in its surroundings. The deeds say we have to maintain the green landscaping to the front, so that's a no go area. Back garden is tiny, so also a no go area....See MoreFitted walk in wardrobe ... depth? waste/useful?

Comments (21)You can't have the dining table and the kitchen adjacent to each other as 5 metres is not wide enough. Hence why I moved the plan around and the positions of things to give you more space. I don't like blocking the flow front to back by putting the Utility on the right immediately. Gaining more length will also help my type of layout as i mentioned earlier. I think you have to compromise on the snug or the utility / downstairs loo area, as the house isn't wide enough for both. Since you already have a lounge and a utility / downstairs loo will add more value, i'd go for the latter. I'd go for this type of layout at 5m extended . No snug..........you don't really need it. If you want all of the above accommodated, then you'd have to go out to around 7m. You may also find difficulty with the plumbing, so, even though I put the option of the utility and toilet on the left in my previous render, i'm not sure it would work. ( it's possible ). You would end up with something like this, but also bear in mind, that due to the depth of the extension you will need a sky lantern in the roof on the left as the snug would be dark without one....See MoreCan't make my kitchen fit! Comments (6)Sorry, I should have explained a little bit more. These are old units that I am simply moving. They are in very good condition. I have no problem with abandoning or not using some of the units. @ Jonathan that looks good. My intention is to get a 2400mm island as well. However, need to get these in first! @ Ellie I will do so when I have a chance a little later on! Thank you. The diagram I put up first shows the area where the units will go along with the window at the top. @rinq the larders are very tall. From memory they are approx 2.1m high. They both have openings of 1050mm for appliances. I havnt enquired about additional units but I'd much rather make the best out of what I have....See More

How much of the extension has already been built?
Asking because the left half of the room is rather tight. Do you have a large family, entertain often? What do you have envisioned, how you'd like to use the space? Will this be your main living space (and the separate lounge as tv room)?

Hm, allright, will have to work with what's there then. I understand the 'need' for pantry, my kitchen is tiny and i'm forever grateful we have a small cellar. Ok, here's what i came up with:
Different kitchen layout, clockwise from garden door: 60cm door, 60 dishwasher, 90 or 100 sink on drawers, corner Lemans with 60cm door, then 100 drawer unit, 120 drawer with both hobs and large extractor above, another 100 drawers, 60cm tall with ovens, 60cm fridge. Then against the old wall a coffee/kettle/toast corner on two 80cm drawers and a small walk-in cupboard (though i'd use it for vacuum cleaner with the door in the hallway, as there are loads of drawers for dry goods, pots, pans etc). Upper units only in the coffee nook, some shelves with lights in above the main worktop.
Walking into the side extension is your second fridge/combi and a tall freezer, your boiler and a tall unit for spare pans and appliances. The inbetween pocket door (optional) to keep the fumes out and the warm in when you're frying in the scullery with the back door open.The scullery/laundry has 4 more simple 60cm base units and washer and dryer, plus uppers and a really good extraction hood.
Without island you can easily fit a 260x100cm table and still have 110/120cm aisle around it. Thus the left part of the room can be filled with corner sofa, daybed, tv, bookcases, you name it.

I just saw a floor plan on todays stories that reminds me of your dilemma and is very similar to Rinqs suggestion - might be useful?
