Bungalow plans, ideas needed for my architect
Comments (121)I have built-in closets under the eaves of an American Bungalow style house in three bedrooms. They measure about 6'x 4', and my son even has a bed in one that is slightly larger, but the ceiling height is between about 2 1/2 and just barely 5 feet, so they aren't as efficient as they can be. In the master, I moved the rod to the back wall (it used to be only the depth of a hanger from the door) and down to a height to hang shirts and jackets, a little over 3' up, and this freed up the two existing short rods on the sides that are set about 4 plus feet up from the floor--long enough for most dresses, skirts and suits and such. This sort of U shaped arrangement works pretty well and the corners are for boxed out of season clothes and a short revolving (sort of a wire Lazy Susan) shoe rack....See MoreBungalow Renovation ideas feedpack please
Comments (2)Very sensible to put your living areas on the back of the property, no matter what it's aspect. I never understand why so many properties, particularly bungalows, have their living area in the front. We have, kitchen, living, dining rooms across the back, bathrooms to the sides and bedrooms along the front....See More1950s Bungalow redesign / renovation
Comments (25)Because your needing to save some money for the project: I'm thinking unless your in a great area, your possibly putting too much into higher end elements and features. Because after all it is still a semi detached bungalow and your not planning to stay forever. If I was downsizing, I'd be after more living space. But of course you could have the option of using the larger bedroom for a separate lounge. If you were considering that option I'd leave the fireplace there. I think the finished house is still not enormous so I think 2 entries are sufficient. If your sure you need a separate utility, I'd look to combining the WC and utility. I have never priced up windows and doors in the UK but I'd expect that you could go double glazed and maybe even consider (everyone's favourite :I ) a not so ugly version of the plastic windows, if they exist. All the elements and the plans look really nice (except the smallish living space), but to get it into budget I think you'll need to downgrade some of the more higher end elements. There was a bunch of high end elements to my house that I renovated that was really a waste of money. For example, I sprung for a lot of beautiful aluminium framed windows, way more than I really needed, but they looked great in the design. So then I ended up with a really hot glass box which I had to spend even more cash to control the light, privacy and heat. Good luck with it all!...See MoreExtending a 1960s two bedroom bungalow
Comments (14)Wow! Thank you everyone. I am certainly impressed by the potential you’re finding. We didn’t think our little bungalow had it in it! We currently use the conservatory/existing extension as a utility room so seeing that we could still squeeze in a utility in the new floor plan is very appealing. We definitely need to discuss priorities as I think some of these amazing ideas may be beyond our budget when we factor in a dorma and loft conversion to get the much needed third bedroom. Great to see different ideas on the space though and makes us all the more keen to improve the space we have rather than moving house. Thank you for your help....See More- last month
