Carpet - hot or not?
Comments (25)@Emmaline. ..just to assure you that whoever mentioned fuzzy toilet seats mistated this. No, they are not actually put on the SEAT. These are not so popular, I don't think, as they were 30 years ago but what they are is a matching rug toilet LID cover. I remember there used to be tank covers but my memory is vague on that. The tank thing might have been the tank LID also. In old days, bathroom sets had the bath mat, the mat with a cut out to allow it to fit around the toilet on the floor, the seat LID cover. They got picked up and washed regularly with the bath mat. I'm not sure if that wasn't better than stepping in male drippings. Better? Worse? We had no males in our household so it was nice to keep feet warm up in winter. My mom was a really good housekeeper so...anyway that was a looong time ago and it was the lid, not the seat itself. I could see how that would be so wrong on every level....See MoreNeed advice for carpet colour on my stairs please - 1930s traditional
Comments (43)hi all, update is I have finally found a photo of someones stairs done in Brintons timorous beastie yellow Ruskin butterfly and its made me decide we are definitely 100% going for this as I love it (see attached pics) on stairs and landing... Floor in hall will be oak herringbone parquet, just wall colour to decide and we have bought new tall skirting so colour to paint this also? i have attcahed apic of the hall currently so you can see our front door with stain glass.. As Ive mentioned before the banister and spindles will be replaces with square spindles with an oak top banister and oak end cap - similar to this houzz pic ... So just to deicide on wall colour and new skirting colour... I really like f&b light blue in a hall with oak parquet but I don't feel this will go with the carpet... Kitchen and dining room will be one of the sage shades and lounge Wimborne white and downpipe......See MoreWhat door threshold to use between carpet and parquet wood floor?
Comments (4)We'd definitely agree with going for a wood threshold. You're quite right in thinking it avoids introducing a third material to the mix. We've also found that wood thresholds are becoming much more popular than a brass alternative. They provide a smoother and more subtle transition between rooms....See MoreHelp! Comments (4)Hello Andrew, I agree with Jessica, it sounds like you have made a good choice there. To give you another thought - I would always aim for the same flooring as far as possible. The main reason is that when you have doors ajar, the eye is likely to note any change in floor covering at the threshold. This can subconsciously make you think the space is smaller than it is. However, if the flooring is the same and there is no carpet bar, leaving an uninterrupted clear threshold, the eye just travels and assumes more space than there actually is. This may or may not matter in the case of your flat but in my experience clients generally favour more space, more light and an easier flow. So, while you could easily use different shades for the walls, I would recommend the same carpet throughout on the floor....See More- last month
