Help with TV wall please!

What would everyone do with this TV wall? I’m thinking of mounting the TV at eye level (about an inch higher than it currently is) and either wood panelling covering the whole to help hide the wires, or painting a darker colour and using trunking. Would wood panelling look good on that wall?

Owen, it would be good to have dimensions and to see what’s going on at the other end of the room. I think the tv looks fine exactly where it is, at a comfortable viewing position. You can tidy the cables under the unit, out of sight at the back and a tall plant in a large pot would fit on the left, hiding the sockets. I think wall panelling behind the tv might be a bit much and compete with your beautiful flooring.

You could cover the wall with slatted wooden panelling, I would use walnut veneer to carry on the darker wood vibe you have going on, wall mount the tv over the console and then the top would be free for a plant and some well chosen ornaments. The alternative is to build a media wall with shelves for storage and mount your tv in the centre of the shelving. It might be better in white though as the floor and the current console are both dark.

Hi David, A couple of questions: I assume that you're making a bespoke unit? Do you need access to the AV equipment for control, or are you going to use a separate control system (Control 4, Dusky, Magic Eye etc) so that the AV equipment can be behind a door? If you're going to use a separate control system, then you could get doors made that can cover up all the equipment and be made to look more symmetrical as they can be wider, possibly the whole width of the unit. It's further than I thought. My concern was the stepped in wall and also the opening to the dining area but as it's further up than I thought the ".entrance" should be fine. You would however be left with an alcove between new and old fire. I wonder what shelves would look like there (I couldn't find an exact pic) or just box it in.. Tadelakt is similar to polished concrete, polished plaster, microcement etc, you could look at any of them just to add a bit of texture/warmth. You could always pay someone to do a CAD design in your room if this is your preferred option? Having said that if you frequently have large parties maybe it's not a great idea to have a fixed structure there? Maybe a tv and fire side by side is a better option? Will see if I can find a pic

Need help with the feature wall for the lounge. The tv will be on the wall so i wanted something dark so the tv doesn't stand out and give it a more cosy feel as it's an open plan kitchen/dinner/lounge. Initially we wanted the acoustic panels either oakor concrete grey but then decided to paint due to costs but can't decide on the colour. Did look at wallpaper panel effect and textured wallpaper but didn't find anything we liked. We have a navy blue snug sofa and we wanted to paint to wall blue but will the sofa just blend in with the wall? The other option is grey or a bluey gery. It's an open plan area and the kitchen is concrete grey. Any suggestions/feedback is appreciated. Thanks

Thanks Isla - wood slatted panelling is the direction I’m heading in. It’s just one of those things you don’t know how it’ll look until you’ve done it (searching for a visualiser that could give me an augmented reality view and can’t find one)

I think it would look great as a fearure wall. I'm planning an oak panelled floor to ceiling strip behind the new oak vanity in my bathroom reno. I have a huge circular backlit mirror to go over the vanity. There are many great ideas on here. Simple and more involved. You could start simple and add shelves and build it up as you need storage. Excuse the awful link but lots of ideas. Shop around for a good price too. Mine is 2400mm x 600mm to give you an idea. You don't have to cover the whole wall either. You could just add it behind shelves for interest. If you choose the dark finish your tv will receed nicely.

Yeah I guess my fear is that it might not look right, but I guess you can’t go wrong really - there’s nothing offensive about wood panelling. It’s definitely an a la mode idea, everyone seems to be doing it

I wouldn’t mount the tv on the wall, it looks nice as it is and a tv cabinet is always a great way to hide the wires. So an easy option is to paint that wall a darker shade say, grey, navy or green which will help the tv blend into the wall. Slatted panelling is very on trend which means it could easily become passé. I can feel it in my bones! However, I know lots of people love it so here’s some ideas. The herringbone pattern is a bit different?

Another option which would give a full wall covering is drapery. Not tightly gathered but with a gentle wave. Less intrusive on fixing to the wall . It would mean leaving the tv on the cabinet, however you could look at finding longer legs so that the cabinet sits a little higher thereby bringing the TV up higher.

I would screw rather than glue as it should be removeable if you ever want to do so. A few holes to fill and repaint. If you glue it will pull the plaster off with it when you remove it. Another option is battening the wall first and fixing to that. That would make sockets, etc. easier to cut around or pull wires through. I'm going for it. I have looked at enough interiors to try it now. If the trend moves on (as they always do) well I'll worry about it then. Every house is my forever house until it isn't. No 4 now and counting. It's a great contemporary addition to your space.
