Dark varnished wood
Comments (6)It is possible to paint over but it will need thorough preparation. The varnish you speak of could be a scumble finish which would need stripping back with a varnish remover for the most success. If it is a more recently varnished finish you might get away with sanding back to key and then using either an etching primer or a primer such as Bin Zinsser. If it is not properly prepared the new paint will sit on top of the varnish and, when dry will just scrape off....See MoreBright or dark wood flooring for a kitchen/ living room?
Comments (3)Hi Emily. In terms of the floor it depends on a couple of things. Dark floors are hard to keep looking clean so would consider upkeep. If the room isn't large a dark floor may also make it look smaller if you have light walls/skirting boards (the less contrast there is the bigger the room will feel). If the room doesn't get much light then a dark floor could make it feel dark although if it has a glossy/shiny finish it will bounce the light. For the kitchen units try and work with the light. What way does the room face and how much light does it get? Light worktops are much more on trend. Again if the room is dark I'd avoid a dark Matt finish worktop although something glossy will reflect the light. Depending on the room you could find lighter units may make it feel more spacious. I'm not sure if that helps but more details are probably needed!...See MoreShould I paint my living room in a new build in a dark colour?
Comments (5)I would avoid painting the whole room this colour, it is very dark. The conservatory takes some light away anyway, so it's not the lightest room. Inchyra Blue is a blue/green, desaturated and dark colour. You could try a blue/green, desaturated slightly light version, it may work better. Here it is on one wall: And here is Oval Room Blue in a different room that looks dimly lit: They look similar due to the amount of light the room naturally receives....See MoreAdvice on old dark wood fireplace and living room
Comments (23)As others have noted, it is absolutely stunning! So i am firmly in the no paint camp....I think I read a suggestion to see if you can lighten the feel by first changing the wall color in the side cupboards and see if changing the glass to plate glass - so agree! You could always take this as a first step and see how this changes things before going the full paintout path....See More- last month
