Electric AGA advice
Comments (25)I inherited an electric AGA 6 years ago and got rid of it last summer. Replaced it with a LaCanche. Best decision I have ever made. Could not cope with how dirty the top of the Aga looked. Even if you wiped it down after every use, as it is hot most of day it attracts dust! So constantly looked dusty! The heat from AGA attracted dust in whole kitchen - I have black granite work tops so they constantly looked dusty as well! Drove me mad! It did keep kitchen warm, but only the kitchen. Never had to put underfloor heating on - obviously now have to having got rid of AGA. I only had AGA (with electric module attached - which I found too long to pre heat so never used it) - so AGA was on all year round. This made kitchen unbearable in summer. Can't say I have noticed that much difference in saving on running costs of AGA compared with having to put heating on. Think they equal each other out. I also didn't like the way AGA cooked at times. You could never properly get timings right when cooking because you can not control heat. If you are cooking big meal or even roast, and if you use the plates for too long this takes heat out of ovens and food takes longer to cook. It was hit and miss when dinner would be ready! . I knew I would miss simmer oven in AGA for slow cooking etc but my LaCanche has a simmer oven. I would never ever have an AGA again. I think there are far better options out there....See MoreAdvice on cladding choice for North elevation of new build...
Comments (15)I really like the combination of white render and stone. Rather than painting it white, have you considered using K Rend. These are self-coloured renders, with the benefit of never having to re-paint....See MoreColour advice for lounge please
Comments (19)So Skimming Stone is very close to Ammonite in terms of Value (lightness) but it is more colourful than Ammonite, as it has a bump more Chroma. Increase in Chroma can help towards combating gloominess in a space. Lower Chroma colours are much more influenced by the changes in light. Pointing is the lightest of all the colours you have mentioned, but sits in between both Ammonite & Skimming Stone in terms of Chroma. That quantity of Chroma is still likely to help keep the trim looking crisp as the skirting is likely to have less Chroma. Because of it’s location on the Color Wheel & the fact it has low Chroma, there is a chance it might shift blue in imbalanced light. It doesn’t mean it will happen in your space, but it may. So again, testing on moveable lining paper is helpful. It’s in those dimmer spots where colour shift may happen....See Morekitchen renovation advice for black AGA
Comments (6)@ringed thank you for your message and for the pictures. I’ll be removing the flagstones from the fireplace. The aim is to apply a self levelling compound to the floor before adding vinyl throughout the space. I think this will be in within my skill set and materials should be fairly cheap. Some of the pictures you posted have slabs and I’ve noticed from my own research that people tend to go for lighter colour vinyls when combining with lighter countertops and black Aga’s. That created a massive dilemma in my head as I wasn’t too sure if a black aga with a black worktop would make the room feel small. @sonia - I think I’ll go for the white worktop option as I feel it will make the room slightly bigger. However, does that go with exposed bricks? I’ll probably keep the original soot to give the cottagy feel. The next dilemma would then be choosing in between black or chrome handles for the units but I think I’ll stick to chrome. Moreover, I’ve another question for you guys. I’ve seen this picture with a rod and I think it could look ideal on the right hand side of the kitchen (against the wall with a rod). Do you know anyone that could supply that kind of think? Picture below for your reference. Also if you know any good light work top material it would be handy to know as I reckon it will have to have holes for the rod. Thanks once again for all your suggestions as this is helping me to figure out what the colour combination of the room is going to be like....See More- last month
