Unsure which walls to feature in my unsymmetrical living room :-(
Comments (13)Thank you guys for suggestions - I like the idea of coloured blinds in the windows Pat Oliver designs - trouble is, we are quite close to the road hence why we chose in the end the wooden Venetian blinds for privacy - although with the wall colour they make everything look orange (the colour on walls is "hot sand" by homebase but is more orangy than I had hoped :-( Its very hard to know what colour to paint the room with the biscuit carpet, and natural wood...I can't really change too much as we don't have a budget. I was hoping to get the look and definition I wanted by paint/paper...but might speak to my hubby to see if we could get some more shelving. Minnie - yes good idea about putting back a little of the wall - I was thinking the same myself - although there is only one door to the room and it is smack bang in the middle on opposite wall which makes things more complicated. :-( I imagine it would be expensive though as you say. I have been trying to find pics of rooms with 2 chimney breasts myself so if you do find some, please can you post them for me as I would love to see them. Thank you both again for your comments xx...See MoreGetting rid of clutter
Comments (9)Hello Thea, Well it certainly is a hard one if you can't bare to throw things out and perhaps have a go at making a few piles of absolute musts to slightly less important.. It's a psychological thing really especially when items hold sentimental importance. So try this and really identify if you can what is absolutely sacred. Another way of dealing with things like photos etc is and this is something I have. I have a Chinese style trunk with cards and things from my childhood up to current. It's square, fits with my decor well and on top I use it as a "bar" with a few glasses and a few decanters. It sits near the fireplace and so it has multi functions. So perhaps consider something similar of a style that suits your home. Then you can keep things but not necessarily have them all on view. In this way you can make what you do display more important and perhaps change things round... So you make different displays over periods of time. Things then have their day and you're not lost so to speak. These ideas may be of some help or give you ideas of your own that may be useful. :))...See MoreDo you have a fireplace like this?
Comments (12)I had a fireplace like this in my old flat with the same alcoves - we painted the fireplace white (can't remember which paint now), covered the mantelpiece in plants that hung and trailed and shelved out the alcoves for books and artwork with the tv at the bottom on the left hand side. I loved it! You can get a really cool mid-century feel with those fireplaces. Unfortunately being in a city we weren't allowed to light the fire so we had pillar candles in the actual fire place which made it feel cosy...See MoreHow to approach a garden like this?!
Comments (5)Usual advice is to live with the garden for a year so you can get a feel for how you’d like to use the space. Agree with Emanuelle that for now I would just give it a clean up and weeding, pruning etc. I like the idea of the wide steps and think it would suit your garden. Extending the width of the pathway is also a good idea, you could also include a patio level with house and incorporate this with the wide steps, doesn’t have to be square, could be curved or diagonal for instance. I’d be interested to know how the garden relates to the house as it seems you have a wraparound garden from the photos. If you can post a rough sketch plan of the house and garden I can perhaps give you some more ideas but in the meantime here’s some inspiration.... (I like the lights under the steps):)...See More- 25 days ago
