Do Painswick windows match with black crittall doors?

We are getting new timber look windows in Painswick colour on the outside, white on the inside. We are also thinking of adding black crittall doors to the garden from the kitchen/diner but I’m worried the black will look too harsh from the outside with the Painswick windows.

My other dilemma is about window handles and whether I need to match them with door handles, sockets, taps, radiators etc. If not, what metals look good mixed?

Any advice please??

Yes, black and greeny/grey which is a description of Painswick would play really well together. I wouldn''t use the word match. The same reason why black garden fences look fantastic with plants. Good choice to get white inside too, will give you far more options for wall colours. You could have a look at coloured crittall if you are worried about black. I will try and find an article or a company name for you that manufactures them. They are on Houzz Pro. I think the finish is more important with metals. Decide whether you are going for polished or brushed (always my first choice). I would limit myself to two different metals as you don't want a metal mashup. Not everything always stands out either. Emphasize the handles you like and minimize some of the others. Try this company

I think the black Crittal doors into the garden will sit well with Painswick, a lovely grey green. Black seems to frame the garden beautifully. I wonder if black handles would help keep everything streamline on the Crittal windows? I do think external doors in Painswick can look very elegant too, giving a more traditional vibe. Is your home brick, stone or render? Here’s some ideas to help you envisage different options.

Hi @Jerry Evans thanks for the thoughtful reply - all right on target. We bought the house with the newly installed windows, so the contract was with the previous owners - not us. Would be nice if Crittall would honour their guarantee or even offer any help but they've yet to do the decent thing. They will not toss their installer under the bus for mis-selling them, nor will they obviously go on record saying they're not suitable for a marine/coastal environment. We're happy to be their test lab!. With respect to condensation the thermal break question is a good one - thanks. If there is one it's not visible and seems woefully ineffective. We have trickle ventilation for the house as a whole but it doesn't reach the windows unfortunately. We do have all the usual extractors and we're starting to look at further air circulation/ventilation solutions. Cheers Bill

Yes, to the best of my knowledge there are no sliding doors I know of other than automatic sliding doors used in commercial applications, (plenty of those about and not Crittall® or steel look) so it looks like you might have to go down the hinged door route. The steel windows associaltion i'd suggest are worth getting in touch with to ask if this product is available either as a standard system or whether it can be made-to-order. Rather than having a door and glass panel made to the exact size it would be more cost effective to put in a standard sized door in a new stud wall.
