Help with designing living room/dining/kitchen please.
Comments (6)Regarding plug sockets - you can never have too many! Make sure there are enough in the kitchen at counter-top level. Either side of the bed is very useful and I would recommend one in the hall to plug the hoover into. I would also suggest a hotel style additional light switch by the bed head (its a small luxury but I love being able to turn it off without going back to the door). It doesn't look like there's that much counter top space in the kitchen so I would recommend buying something like this as an island: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/kitchen-products/kitchen-islands-trolleys/stenstorp-kitchen-island-white-oak-art-60323021/ This would also help to divide the kitchen/living space and provides space for a couple of bar stools for casual dining/chatting whilst cooking. If your daughter likes this idea then you may want to have a pendant light fitting over the island. Consider bathroom storage and where a shaver socket would be best placed for electric toothbrushes etc. If opting for spotlighting then get dimmer switches so you can control how bright they are. It also looks like the bathroom door and hall cupboard door will intersect each other at the moment so I would suggest having the bathroom door open inwards instead....See MoreHelp designing Utility room
Comments (10)Just another mention on the dimensions. I notice that you said in your initial post that you are making.............not have made a Utility. You have picked 1800mm wide for the room. If you can change this, it will mean that you can have the extra storage both sides of the room as rinq shows. The reason I have not put storage both sides is because:- You should allow 630mm for base units ( plumbing takes up room abd walls are never 'true' )....This taken away from your 1800mm leaves 1170mm. You should have 'crouch room' of a metre. This then prevents you from having more base units the other side as if you put some in, your crouch room would only be 540mm ( not enough), especially if you have a dryer or a fridge etc, no room to open the doors and stand in front of them. If you increase from 1800mm to 2200mm you will be able to have storage both sides. Not sure you need it, if you plan the room well enough, because you can fit in a lot if you change the window as previously suggested and have two tall cupboards..............just wanted to mention why there were no cupboards both sides....See MoreEnough space to create a utility room and separate shower room?
Comments (10)Assuming the plumbing can't go all the way into the porch (and runs along the left), I imagined this: Instead of opening up the complete kitchen-dining wall (probably loadbearing), enlarge the current doorway and have a 'window frame' installed to open things up. No separate utility in this though. And is the door on the side the only door to your garden? I've simply added one, though french doors in the dining would most likely add more value. And with some extra cash you could open up the dining-lounge wall too. And close off some of the hallway to gain storage space under+near the stairs....See MoreHelp with playroom, utility and downstairs shower room design
Comments (11)As much storage for the playroom as possible. A mix of shelves and baskets some built in for example around the chimney breast with a couple of freestanding pieces. A comfy sofa and a small table and some chairs for crafts. Love that island in your pic. Think of the future, and choose plain furniture that will last. You can always add colour with rugs, throws, cushions and art. Beanbags like Fatboy are great for children to watch tv. Make it a fun room....See More- last month
