I would steer clear from white (unless it's a very chalky and warm white) as it will look quite drab and two-dimmensional.
I would suggest experimenting with more saturated warm colours such as pink, aubergine, mushroom, deep yellow or green?
It might sound like a tacky looking shoice but the key is to get a shade with the right amount of colour and warm grey undertones so it feels a bit earthy and grounded rather than gaudy :)
A pic of the room would help immensely. Without seeing natural light and your other furnishings as well as the floor it's quite difficult to suggest a colour. There are too many variables.
