please help decorate my bedroom

Please help! Photos as shown. I’d like to keep the colour in the walls and furniture… the room is too narrow I’m not sure I can change layout much. Window faces east- southeast. I’m really struggling with how to make it look more cosy, like a place I’d like to come and relax in… there are a couple of gold frames I’d like to put up- they’re about a4 size. I was thinking something like floating shelves along the top of the walls (and our plants/books) but they’re not very high to start with and maintaining may be hard? Any ideas on how I can make this look better with minimal big changes I’d really appreciate it!! Thank you ☺️

Here are my thoughts. If you’re able to move the furniture easily how about placing the chest of drawers under the window and swapping the large mirror for a much smaller one. The bed can then be centred on the wall between the chest of drawers and the wardrobe. If budget allows you could buy two matching bedside drawers and lamps. This new layout might leave space for a small armchair in the corner by the window. I think you should have a sort through your stuff and only keep what you really need. This will leave room for essential things that can be stored away so surfaces are clear. And remove the coats from the back of the door. This should help create a calmer more relaxing feel in the room.

Thank you I’ll have a think about the dresser by the window. Storage is a major issue for us. Those are just some clothes hanging on the door (those being used before they go in the wash!) I’ve done many culls already so things in the cupboards are only what I need. And the dressing table could be reorganised. But I would like to do something regarding decorations/something to make it look nicer too… I already have matching bedside tables which you probably can’t see well in the photos. Thank you for your advice ☺️

My first thought is that the bed looks a little close to the furniture across from the foot of it. I might try the bed on the window wall and instead of the piece on the wall that has the door, eliminate it and get two bedside table pieces with storage to accommodate whatever you were going to store in the piece across from the foot of the bed in your plan. I like beige and gray schemes in the bedroom too, and find some live green plants add a perfect spot of color, or perhaps a kind of acid green silk texture throw pillow. My suggestion is to browse Houzz photos and save the color schemes that you really love! Adding something sparkly will pep up a design that you think is too monochromatic as well - some silver or crystal bling? I added some bling-y chandeliers on either side of the bed in one of my bedrooms, which is fairly monochromatic in beige and gray tones. Some of the throw pillows also have a silvery touch in them.

Taupe works well with the colours and a trefoils wallpaper (pale gold on creamy background) may look good as the lamps look slightly oriental. I don't know how big the room is but i'd consider wallpapering all of it and adding a taupe carpet. The ceilings are fairly high so hang curtain poles at the top to increase the sense of height (maybe taupe with a black border at the bottom). Add accessories in the 3 colours and maybe try a black velvet chair. Or alternatively a pale blue scheme should work.

Ok so your taste is a little more traditional. I still think greens and possibly duck egg blues will compliment that colour of wood as per these photos. If you want something a little warmer you could try a darker wine colour? You could try an Internet search for traditional style hotel bedrooms for inspirational ideas.

At the risk of contradicting previous advice, warm colours suit a dark and north facing room much better. If you are set on blue, then I would go with a rich dark blue - Stiffkey has been mentioned and it is an awesome shade. You could then do the paintwork to co-ordinate with the wardrobes to tie them in, and use patterned or textured soft furnishings as a bridge between the two colours. Embracing the fact that the room is dark rather than fighting it gives you the chance to make it a cosy nest, with plenty of texture to break up big blocks of colour and make it even more warm. A blackout blind and soft full patterned drapes will get around the radiator under the window issue and add more interest. I see you have metallic lamps - more metallics and and clever use of mirrors will help reflect any light you do have in the day, and your low level lamps will help make it warm and intimate at night with reading light as a bonus. It’s a nice room and I agree that some art will make a huge difference. Look through Houzz and Pinterest for some great ideas. Other than that, can I be honest, it needs a tidy. Store everything away - hair stuff, makeup, clothing. If you leave stuff on view it just makes a room look more untidy no matter how you decorate. I’m no minimalist and I sometimes have a bedroom that isn’t always perfect, but tidying stuff away is a start.

I think the room is missing pattern.

consider a rug, wallpaper or a patterned duvet as well as the excellent suggestion of art
