Need your help!! Updating living room
Comments (6)Congratulations on the new house, looks stunning and full of charm! I'm guessing you want to keep the current furniture? If you do then there's still lots you can do while staying sympathetic to the character of the house. You said want to add your stamp to it. Why not have a bit of fun and run through some ideas about what you like, maybe inspired by an era, or style? Mid century, nautical, or even countries you have visited? Think about what time you'll be using the room, etc. Inject some quirkiness, through interesting patterns on your soft furnishings, rugs, and even the curtains. You could even think about re-arranging the furniture to suit you. Add some colourful pieces in the scarce rooms with a stylish ottoman or side tables on either side of the sofa with interesting and oversized lamps to add some symmetry, adding different layers of lighting will make the room elegant and stylish. Hope that's something to start with. Some pics below to inspire. Good luck! http://houzz.com/photos/14608425 http://houzz.com/photos/19031981 http://houzz.com/photos/1009642...See MoreSmall living room / diner is a blank canvas... help!
Comments (5)Hey, Gemma. How's it going? Are you able to post some more pictures of the space, so we can see it from other angles and how it ties to other rooms (especially the kitchen)? Also, forgive me for asking, but where is the current dining table? Your eye is similar to mine in the choices you made and my living/ dining area is similar so I can certainly relate. It's difficult to know where to start because you're lucky enough to have a blank slate. I think all your ideas are good. I know you're changing your sofa which is good as the chaise element blocks the eye's flow to the light/ window. Something with long legs, with 2 seats - possible a loveseat - would also help to minimise the footprint. I agree with the paint colours. I'd probably paint the whole wall, in case you wanted to change things around at some point. It can also be very difficult to pull off, and especially with varying lights. How would you like the split to be between the dining and living areas? In one of your ideabook photos you have the 'zones' approach at 50/50 but I'm not sure if that's something you were going to carry through or whether the dining space would play a less prominent role. All that said, I think all your ideas are spot on and the space promises to look great....See MoreNeed help for a small living room
Comments (15)Hi Melanie, Here are a few suggestions we can offer to you. For a start, the light grey wall would look great with the blue sofa, if the rest of the walls was white so that it brightened up the room and didn't make it look enclosed. If your not too keen on the yellow on this then that doesn't matter as you can just add creams or beige's which will look great to. Micro Throw - Mocha I think you should paint the fireplace white as it will bring out more contrast between the colours and look better with the grey wall. Also instead of adding shelves next to the fireplace, add a couple on the wall at the side like above. Then you can add some photo frames to make it more warming and personal. For the lights I would probably suggest something like these, just as they will brighten the room up more and they are not too over powering.
