Comments (11)As Minnie says, not a fan of chalk paint on furniture, it has it's places, but for a washable surface with kids around it's a big No No. It has to be sealed and then it doesn't look like chalk paint anymore - and, quite frankly it's a load of old B*** that it sticks to almost any surface - almost being the operative word there. You can paint ikea units. Scratch the surface with a fine grade sandpaper 120 grit....then use a good quality water based primer - we use dulux. ( one coat should be enough with dulux ) Then buy a waterbased satinwood paint - also our preference is Dulux Diamond Trade..............you can pick your colour off any of their colour cards. You have great flat surfaces, so if it were me i'd roller the top coat on with small gloss rollers. You may need to do more than two coats but it will give a better finish than using a brush. Don't over load the roller, don't worry too much about the small air bubbles, they flatten out when it dries and kind of gel together. x...See MoreOpen Plan kitchen - messy or not?
Comments (14)A place for everything and everything in its place. A good kitchen designer will take account of who uses the kitchen and how they use it. By having a well planned out kitchen, easy to use storage drawers & larders and storage accessories such as plate holders, dividers, cutlery trays etc all help to make the kitchen easier to use and keep tidy. Worktop features like roller shutters or worktop sliding doors also help hide the kettles, toasters, mixers - the stuff that usually clutters a kitchen. Paper towel, tinfoil & clingfilm holders all serve a useful purpose as well. We often find that many kitchen companies omit a lot of these essential accessories until after the kitchen contract is signed and then sell them as an add on. Also - remember - if you are messy then make sure you select materials that are easy to clean and tend not to stain. In worktops;quartz, corian and dekton are all great materials which are non porous so difficult to stain. For your door fronts - certainly high quality laminate is probably one of the most robust and cleaning friendly materials you can get as well as being the most price friendly. best of luck...See MoreLVT installation advice please
Comments (4)We had ours laid before the units etc went in, but it was laid up to where there was going to be cabinets etc. You can measure where everything is going to be a perhaps mark it out with chalk. It's not worth having it underneath cabinets as you'd just be paying for something that no-one sees. Our fitter laid to just inside where the plinths were going to be. For things like the dishwasher (that wasn't built in) he laid flooring under where those would go. As for skirting, our fitter said he could lay it before or after the skirting was fitted, he said one was just as easy as the other to do, but we chose to fit the skirting after the flooring was laid....See MoreKitchen advice please!
Comments (12)I think my only issue with the sink on the island is it looking messy in the time between cooking and washing up! I wondered whether having a small sink on the island and then washing up sink under the window? Although I am now tempted by idea of an island as main part of kitchen and replacing window with doors to garden. Thanks to this thread I do now understand the problem!!...See More- 8 months ago
