I can't help but speculate that perhaps the reason so many houses featured are London based or more high-end properties is because most of the case studies are uploaded by architecture or design professionals who employ professional photographers to show off the finished results. These services aren't cheap and I don't imagine these companies get too many requests from owners of smaller 30's - 70's era homes, especially from outside the capital, because the homeowners won't see a return on the investment. I would have thought requesting design-savvy home owners load more of their own photo's would help bridge the gap. Perhaps on the next newsletter you can ask homeowners to consider contributing any photos of spaces they are particularly proud of?

I'm a little late to the party but here's my two penn'orth; I think keeping the door at one of the ends would be batter than placing it centrally as it will intrude into an already small space less. The remaining two doors I think would look nice as full length windows, perhaps with black anodised or powder coated frames, keep one of the doors and upgrade it to use for the entrance if it is in good enough condition as it compliments the building. The roof needs relaying but as mentioned the old clay pegs would be nice to retain as they suit the building and mostly look reuseable, the hips would benefit from proper hip tiles as opposed to the concrete that is currently there. I notice that on the sunward side (right) there seems to be glass or metal set into the lower part of the roof, although that will allow a lot of light in, I imagine it will also make the interior hot in the summer so you will need at least ventilation. It looks as though there is enough depth to the rafters to be able to insulate between them with a faced polyurethane board so keeping the wood and it's character visible. Repoint the interior with lime mortar as mentioned to keep the look and character of the stone and brick walls. The roof would also benefit from gutters, a downpipe and a rain barrel, at least above the door and windows.

I agree with the above. Is it your preference not to be too different or is it actually a rule for your house/area? "in keeping" is a very subjective term. A house is in keeping as long as some elements like size, proportion, colour, material are reflected elsewhere. I would say your houses are not "in keeping" but identical. I agree with @Barbara in that if you make a big change that looks beautiful other neighbours will follow suit.

Hi, I think it looks lovely :) Your house will look fresh and modern. What a fab update. For the render, what about still going for fresh with white but with a softer undertone? Not cream, but a white with some cream in it? Not sure I explain properly :) For exemple, F&B Wimborne white is a softer white, not as stark. Still definitively white but softer. Maybe visit a pain shop (like F&B for exemple) with one of your stone and see what work with it? :)
