kitchen floor colour dithering...

We are putting a Howdens Hockley walnut, fir green and black kitchen in, and are dithering over the flooring. The room is east facing, but there will be a large bank of windows behind the island, and a roof light, so plenty of light coming in. We did think we wanted to go with large porcelain oak planks, but in some lights the oak is looking very similar to the walnut of the units. Don't want the room to feel dark, and we want to warm it up a bit. Any ideas other than a mid-coloured porcelain oak? I've seen some pics of similar kitchens with a black floor, but wary of too much black. The worktops will be Dekton Laurent. Thanks for any advice!

I would go for a mid tone floor tile, something that looks like limestone. I've got Kast Sand from Mandarin Stone in my bathroom and I love it. The colour would work really well with your walnut and green as both contain some warmth.

Use wood palette floor and white backsplash

If you like those transparent kitchen upper cabinet you should install LED light

It help making the kitchen more luxurious

I would stick to neutral colours as your kitchen sounds quite contemporary and anything to flashy may upset the balance. Black glass looks very elegant but a white or transparent splash back will help to open the room up. Grey is a good middle ground but too much grey can look rather drab. I would say that the deciding factor should be the size of the kitchen as black may close the room in. But it is wise in my opinion to go for the same finish as you have for the work tops. I have enclosed a CAD design of a kitchen with cashmere cupboards and a black glass splash back for inspiration. Would love to see some pictures of your kitchen!

Thanks @Sonia. Good shout. We did think about extending the parquet floor but i fear we will be unable to get a decent match - the existing floor has been down for about 60 years and has been sanded and treated a number of times so it has a fairly unique character. Really appreciate the suggestion. Wil give it some more thought.

Colour scheme for dark floor and light blue kitchen

Hi, I am in the process of buying a 30s house which is has a beautiful dark wood floor throughout the downstairs and a fairly new kitchen which is light blue and will not be replaced. I am trying to work out a good colour scheme for the kitchen, breakfast room and lounge and need help! I've been reading about complementary, analogous, monochromatic etc but with so many options I am confused. I have attached a photo of the kitchen and breakfast room which is from a video so not the best quality. Any suggestions on a colour scheme or how to approach choosing one would be appreciated! I am guessing I should use the same colour scheme in the kitchen and breakfast room because they are connected but maybe a completely different colour scheme in the lounge?

Cashmere changes colour throughout the day depending on the light so i would keep all units the same colour. Personally not a lover of American fridge freezers especially in smaller kitchens. They seem to draw your eye to them as they are so bulky. Depending on the brand you will need to allow ventilation around it and also space each side if you intend to have tall units.

Thanks, both, for your helpful suggestions. I was pondering on the limestone/travertine possibility, so will go get a sample from the tile shop to try. And carry on looking at wood options too.

both travertine and limestone can stain and scratch more easily and need sealing,

white quartz is around the same price as limestone but more durable and low maintenance,

if you want wood counter top I suggest the same walnut, maple, ash or white oak all with subtle grain pattern

after you chose them then consider if bronze handles fit well or not with overall kitchen

I agree with the consensus of the thread that if you opt for Wood flooring, Natural Oak is a fantastic, timeless option. When considering Natural Oak, it's helpful to think about the "grade" of the wood. A Prime grade will have a very clean, uniform look with minimal knots, while a Rustic or Vintage grade will have more character marks, knots, and colour variation, offering a warmer, more rustic charm. This is often a matter of personal preference and budget.
