Anyone have any ideas for what I can do with this built in cupboard?
I’m planning on making the room Scandinavian style as myself and my partner bought a house which is a big renovation job but I’d like to do something with this bedroom cupboard to make it nicer and less of a dumping ground?

Or use Wood panel that one slat can be opened (the one which wardrobe placed)
Add LED to make it more luxurious and not feels like dark cluttered storage, if you use wooden panel outside, it best to use wood texture inside the wardrobe too

Those French doors with a view of the garden should definitely be the focal point, they are truly stunning and they are framing perfectly the garden which will look great when it's done! What I would start doing is to remove the carpet, you might already have some original wood floors under there but if not I think it could be worth investing in that. The heater is also bugging me... Maybe you could replace it or hide it behind a wooden case with similar paneling to the doors. Then I would remove the two low cupboards which make that side look a bit heavy and I suspect are not practical anyway. For the colours I would get rid of the wallpaper, repaint everything white including the ceiling and then you can start adding really subtle colours. For example I would perhaps paint the lower part of the walls (where your wallpaper is now) in a very light grey which will give a modern touch whilst not denaturing the heritage of the room. I really like the darker colour that is on some edges of the paneling of the doors and at the border with the ceiling so I would maybe choose a different colour but keep that concept which really draws attention to the original features. I would personally not add any new ones as suggested above as your room doesn't need it, it already has lots of character, Then for the layout you could, to accentuate the French doors as focal point, place two identical sofas facing each other with the space between them leading to the Frencg doors if you see what I mean. Then the rest is just accessorizing: a nice rug, some side tables and maybe a bigger pedestal-type table in front of the French doors with a big flower bouquet on top. You could choose as an accent colour (for accessories like cushions) something similar to the darker colour you chose to highlight the original features, this will tie it all in. Comments (10)Hi Laura, I think you need to bear in mind that this is a walk way through to the dining area and it is at the bottom of the stairs. So we can't go for something very large. I would agree that a radiator cover is a good idea. In white is will help break the colour up and hide the radiator but it will also give a ledge. I would place a plant for a nice vibrant feel adding some great freshness to the space and maybe the odd accessories - so 'a' book with a candle or small vase. A picture above it will help bring some accent colour into the space which you can take from your own furnishings or introduced. Based on the width of cover you go for - I see a plug there - so you could also add another layer and height of lighting with a lamp. This will add a great feel to the space. Comments (6)I feel like there would be a way of integrating some seating like the pictures below. I know they aren’t built at angles like your fire is set but I’m sure something could be designed bespoke for that area. It would make a real feature of it and could be very contemporary depending on the finish you chose.. you could have seating at both sides or storage at one side and seating at the other? Use Wood panel then it can be used as the backrest of bed or placed a table, chair etc alongside this wall but you can still access this original wardrobe if needed
Even if you have another cupboard in other side people who don't know Will only think this as accent wall on your bedroom, a perfect spot to hide belongings, many design option too

You could remove the door and architrave and make it storage for display or books (obviously decreasing the depth)
Or build a low faux wall for the bed like the 2nd image, then panel above the top in fluted wood etc and have a secret door to storage. I can’t find an image but it shouldn’t be too difficult
