Have you tried any testers at all? im assuming you don’t want the tv to stand out? If so, maybe try something like farrow and ball cardamom which has more warmth with au lait on the other walls

You could try a lighter aqua blue, a soft sage green or an off white which all sit nicely with a grey couch.

Green is a good way to go with a north facing room but with yellow undertone like Farrow and Ball Bancha. The problem with your blue is it is too cool. If you want a neutral go with a red based neutral like Dimity. Then lots of textiles to make it cosy. Good luck

The blue wall doesn't relate to anything else in the room so it's like a room of two halves. Definitely replace or get more cushions/throws - and some of them need to have at least a little bit of blue in them. Don't just get a plain blue cushion and expect that to work magic. I don't like feature walls unless the wall really is a feature, I prefer the commitment of the whole room to the colour. Perhaps you could paint the walls to the sides of the fireplace the same as the rest of the walls, but leave the fireplace section the blue though? It would lessen the heaviness of that wall but still maintain that focal point (and the dark colour does hide the TV a little, which is good).

Whilst blue is often seen as a cool colour I think it always depends on context and shade. In this case the blue alone is not the cool thing. In my opinion the nearly white walls are the problem. To get round this I stand by my previous advice to add more pictures, pattern, soft furnishings, plants and light sources.

I think all of the above points are valid and this issue has been the bane of my life in my last house. You can't make a light room lighter than it is, it's determined by the amount of light it gets. Painting it a darker colour makes it darker. However painting it a light colour can make it appear bleak as white for example only looks white with light, otherwise it looks grey. Same with dirty greiges, they can look bleak without warmth or light. One way of helping is to introduce warmth. As you're working with grey carpet and sofa I would avoid anything greige as it will clash. You could go down the warmth route and use a terracotta, you may not make it much lighter but you might make it feel homelier and cosy. I'vee used this colour in my North facing downstairs bedroom that was previously white, I wouldn't paint over it and believe me I've painted rooms multiple times! I would have painted the ceiling a warmer colour if I could have faced it.

I'd say, tone down the walls either side of the chimney breast. The blue you have is beautiful, but it blends in too much. It needs to pop out!

Maybe some large, but light ones art pieces either side of the fire will help. Saves a repaint and they would be highlighted by the darker background.
