Hi ! Congrats on the purchase !!! I think the red carpet doesn't help - it's absorbing all the light !! So if you have something lighter that will help ! Natural light can flow in if you set curtains so the fabric hangs on the walls either side - rather than in front of the windows... If you want mellow lighting then having lamps that all come on either individually or even switched from the wall as one lot could work well? For task lighting ( for reading etc) have a brighter angled lamp, that is only switched on when you need it. Personally I like soft lights - but some prefer brighter - depends what you use the room for ! I only use central pendant lights as a last resort - I think there are much more interesting ways to bring light in ! Hope that helps a little ! Happy Houzzing !!

If you're tight on budget why don't you get a carpenter/joiner to make one or a pair of doors in a shaker design to match those above. They could make them in MDF for you. Thicker back and thinner pieces around the edge to give the shaker effect. You can then paint them. It won't cost an arm and a leg. Couple of hinges and away you go. Regarding the pole to hang the clothes on these can be purchased easily at lots of stores, or even look on eBay. Screws are all that are required to put them in place.

What is the orientation of the rooms? Consider the natural light levels in your design. Pocket doors between the two rooms are potentially a good idea to give you maximum versatility, subject to structural support considerations.

A few suggestions: A compact L-shape sofa facing the balcony. Contemporary style sofa, seating more and taking less space (depth) and low upholstered footstool. TV unit to the left of the balcony TV on wall between the window and balcony. Compact dining set placed centrally to the kitchen space (if there is enough room). A large mirror facing the balcony to give an illusion of space. I noticed the de-humidifier in the photo. Some indoor plants make excellent de-humidifier by absorbing water through their leaves.
