Is it worth getting a boiling water tap? Any disadvantages? Is there enough room below a single Belfast sink? Anyone had a qettle tap, any good? Thank you.
I had a customer who didn't like the taste, preferred her kettle, her husband couldn't tell the difference. Can be a bit noisy and if they go wrong, its another thing that can leak in your kitchen cupboard, on going cost of filters to be changed. Take up a lot of space, for a belfast sink unit you may need to cut a hole in the base for the tank. Tank size depends on what its used for, if you want to use it for filling pans and not just hot drinks then you need a bigger tank. Possible risk of thermal shock with ceramic sinks [belfast sink?], so check suitability of the sink.
We have a quooker tap. I absolutely love the convenience but...
Bear in mind the fact that it should be serviced every so often which is an extra cost.
Also, we are in a (relatively) hard water area. We found this out when limescale built up on the element in the quooker flask, causing it to malfunction. We had to replace the flask and add a quooker filter unit. The filter unit takes up additional space and will need to be replaced every two years (more/less often depending on the lime in your area).
If I had factored in the additional costs I might not have gone ahead with the tap.
I have a Qettle. Love it. Have had it for around 7-8 years. I replace the filter when the light flashes which is around twice a year for us. I now buy the non genuine from Amazon and they work fine.
