Tricky layout in Victorian semi - Advice appreciated!
Comments (11)Sorry for the very crude sketch but here's my suggestions 1. Knock bathroom extension and replace with 2 story extension squared off with kitchen block or better again if suitable from outside extend kitchen and replacement extension footprint to width of house. 2. Change rise of stairs to opposite side, this benefits upstairs so that the landing can instead become part of a bedroom. Existing staircase could probably be refuges. 3. Put main/family bath where fireplace is as it would prob be easier to work the difficult shape for a bathroom than a bedroom. 3. The new extension upstairs can then become the master bed with space to incorporate ensuite and/walk in wardrobe etc. 4. Put utility space in downstairs hall making use of under stairs as well if possible. WC could possibly also go there. 5. Dining room/kitchen could become open or broken plan with sliding doors connecting. WC could be on opposite wall with garden entice though small boot room as per second photo....See MoreVictorian Semi - Kitchen Renovation Help & Advice Needed!
Comments (15)Re the lounge area don’t forget it will not have any natural light once doors are closed, it looks quite dark already although that may just be the photo. Definitely consider some roof lights in the roof section that is replacing the conservatory as that will bring more light into the dining area and the lounge through whatever opening you choose. Maybe use glass doors between lounge and diner?...See MoreHelp needed to improve layout of Victorian semi for a family of 5
Comments (0)Hi I'm new to houzz We are moving into this lovely house soon hopefully (heart not head purchase) and are trying to work out if we can of move the kitchen into the Living Room to make a Kitchen Diner, and then using the current kitchen as a utility room and office space with big window. We have got a bit stuck on how to create a good flow through the house to the garden and make it work with the chimney breasts etc. I'd love for it to be connected to the patio and garden but the large windows have a low radiator underneath in the living room and there are steps going down to the cellar on the other side of them. This is the Living room currently inside (outside below) Any advice / ideas would be appreciated. (We don't have a huge budget so want to avoid huge structural work where possible) For a later project, we also need ideas on how to make better use of the 'turret' space - currently, it is a bit of a wasted feature in our opinion and the bathrooms are a bit crammed in. We are currently in a 1960's open plan semi which has patio doors out onto the garden (probably the only part of the house we like)...See MoreVictorian Semi Kitchen/Utility Layout – Help!
Comments (10)Hello, this is a very common layout in Victorian terraces. Is it really a semi? A solution would be to relocate the downstairs loo and utility room to the current dining room - sounds radical but this would also give you valuable storage space and a laundry station as well as keeping the loo away from the kitchen. The dining area could then be created at the end with the outlook you want, while functionality of the kitchen can be improved and united with the dining area with a peninsula unit between the two. This unit would have storage accessible from both sides. I've attached an image of the kind of thing I mean. This was created for layout purposes for another project so please don't take it too literally or focus too much on the 3D objects - it's the peninsula idea I'm trying to illustrate. To avoid having to struggle through the dining room to access the back garden with bin bags etc, a new back door could be created from the new utility room - there is already a window there....See More- 26 days ago
