How to blend flooring? lost!!

Morning

We have Moduleo blackjack flooring in the whole downstairs but sadly the exact LVT is discontinued and it’s impossible to find anywhere.

We are having an extension built, around 3.5m x 5m and struggling on what we should do with the flooring as we don’t want it to look cheap, or simply look bad.

Can anyone kindly assist?

Hello Nichola, Yes rather interesting.! . I'm less keen on the metal work, i'd change this and possibly the tiles on top of the stone.... It looks like it might have contained plants... An indoor oasis.. I have seen it on an episode of Columbo (which I love actually!) If I find an example of what I mean I'll add a pic.. The reason I think it works is because you have more in the room (fireplace?.. The stone offers interesting texture.. I think leafy fronds of something and a large mirror over the wall there would be fantastic or a fantastic canvas.. I tend to like mirrors as they offer interesting views of the room they look into...... Why not think about painting that piece of wall a stone colour or a grey to compliment.. The stone is rather an interesting resource for colour sourcing as it has an array of colours that would really look good on the walls to compliment and possibly wooden floor for more texture and warmth.. Is there a fireplace too? : ))

Hi everybody, thank you so much for your help! I quite like the idea of a warm grey, as Steven suggested. We haven't really considered glass splashback, Shaun, we were set on tiles, but I'll be going out this weekend and would certainly look at both, hopefully come back with a few samples. Minnie, I really like the tiles and rug you've chosen. We had a rug under the coffee table, that was lighter, it didn't last! I think we will need something more hardwearing. I would love to have a plant on the left of the TV, but unfortunately the radiator is there. I might have to look for a plant that enjoys the heat! I had initially chosen a shelf to go above the TV and it was long and white and it just didn't look right. I'll try again with smaller staggered ones. The mirrors above the dining table were from the old layout and I tried to find a use for them but I can see how a nice picture would work better. The pink cushions are really nice, Carolina. We only kept the grey ones because they came with the sofa. I know what you mean about the chair under the stairs. We do pull it out whenever someone comes over and can sit around the table. Even if it blocks the walkway while it's being used! :)) I will get to work and come back with more photos :)

Why don't you start putting together an ideabook on houzz, save all the pictures you like and annotate what in particular you like about each one as it will help you (and others) in terms of decor and then you can make a design that you work towards over time. If you're getting rid of the fire then I would probably hang the tv on the chimney breast to save space. There are lots of ways to make sure it doesn't become the focal point. As a short term solution though will the tv fit on the wooden stand in the alcove? Will the velvet sofa also fit in room 1? If so, what way does the room face in terms of paint colour? Longer term maybe you could build out the cupboard and chimney slightly so as to recess the tv and cover the pipes? For room 2 personally I'd use this for dining. Can you have a banquette seat and pedestal table on the wall where the buggy is? Is there room for your daughters big toys to go elsewhere or not? I'm just wondering if you could use this as combined dining and play? (You also get a comfier seat with the banquette as presumably she's not old enough to play on her own). Rugs, lamps, textures, plants etc will all make it feel more homely. Maybe if you give an initial budget for stage 1 people can give ideas?

Hi Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply. Definitely food for thought! I've not got photos of the roof at the moment but we are going for a second viewing on Saturday so I'll take some then. In the meantime I've attached some of the pictures from the listing. Our favourite parts of the house are the original bits - the kitchen and lounge so I think opening up between the kitchen and lounge to create a kitchen/diner living space as Steph initially suggested would be good if its possible to remove the wall?! I think there would then be space for the dining room to be divided to provide a hall with perhaps utility storage adjacent to the bathroom and the extra bedroom we need. I've had a play around with the existing floorplan and come up with this - any comments (glaring obvious things I've missed!) would be so helpful. Once again, thanks!! Entrance Garden Dining room

Have a good look through other LVT manufacturers and be prepared perhaps to lay a very similar colour but as a plank. laid in a different direction to the Herringone this can really work with a border to the Herringbone or some design strip detail to break the floor/area. Your installer or retailer should be able to advise the best course of action, extending or adding to what you have already laid will b very dependent on what - if any - tiles you may have left over from the original install as it will likely be required to scissor into the existing tiles if you plan to blend at the same height anyway.

Ah that’s frustrating when you finally find a floor you love and then it gets discontinued 😅

Honestly though, I think trying to perfectly match it will drive you mad. Even if you found something close, the age/wear/light exposure on your current floor would probably still make the new section stand out.

Looking at your photos, I actually think your best option is to choose something that complements it rather than copies it.

Because your current floor already has a strong herringbone pattern, I’d probably go for:
- a straight plank LVT in a similar warm oak tone
  or
- a slightly lighter natural oak herringbone so it feels intentional rather than “almost matching”.
Trying to do another herringbone that’s 95% similar usually ends up highlighting the difference more.

And honestly, once the extension is furnished and lived in, your eye tends to read it as a separate zone anyway, especially with extensions because the light is usually completely different.

You could even use a nice threshold strip between the spaces and make it feel like a deliberate transition rather than a compromise.
