Bedroom blank canvas!
Comments (6)Hi Jenny, the low cornice in your bedroom is a good feature to play with in the colour scheme. It is always effective to paint wood works in a darker shade than the walls. It gives character to the room. In warm greys, we would suggest Farrow&Ball Ammonite for the walls and Purbeck Stone for the cornice and door next to the window. These are the 2 shades around Cornforth White in the colour chart. You will have a nice contract with the white ceiling coming down to the cornice. Think also about window dressing to incorporate to your scheme. What about a roman blind with white and grey borders to echo the walls and ceiling and a 3rd colour to add some interest? See the example of the blind in the picture below where the warm blue brings live and interest to the neutrals grey and white. A roman blind is always a good solution for a sash window with a radiator below. The Pret A Vivre team...See MoreNew Build - Garden Design Ideas
Comments (3)Pleached trees in part might look odd, as they're best placed to reinforce a formal layout such as a path or a full length of a boundary. I'd consider a focal tree as it only looks a small landing window. A Birch, Acer, Amelanchier, Prunus or all good small to medium garden trees that you could buy at a reasonable size to start with. The other thing, pleached trees are expensive and need correct staking/guying to keep them in place. A generous patio outside the living room doors provides immediate seating outside the house, whilst a smaller patio area in the NE corner will optimise the evening sun. This then lends itself to an asymmetrical layout but perhaps with a central lawn which the an adjoining path takes you round, The lawn could be oval on a NW - SE axis with paved areas in the NE and SW corners with generous planting to the boundaries to provide a setting to the whole garden and hide the boundaries. Hope that helps. At least you have a blank canvas!...See MoreHelp me design my garden please
Comments (17)Looks great:) Agree with ED, plants in pots need regular watering and care. As for trees, if it’s in full sun then an olive would be great or if in cool shade an acer would also look nice. They need fairly large pots tho. For that reason I wouldn’t put shrubs or trees into the planter between decking and gravel mainly because of the roots and spread. However some may take well such as yew or tall growing junipers such as ‘sky rocket’. Personally I like to see a mixture of tall and flowing grasses and perennials. Mexican feather grass (sometimes called ponytails), crocosmia ‘red Lucifer’, some gladioli, and zebra grass would make a lovely combo. If you put the Mexican feather grass near the edge of the lawn you can watch it waft in the breeze (it’s one of my favorites:))....See More41m x 7m garden - blank canvas!
Comments (15)Overall I think what works so well in the examples shared is having interesting spaces down the length of the garden, giving you reasons to move down towards the end rather than what we do currently - spend 90% of the time in the first 10% of the garden unless we need to go to the shed at the end! I've done some sketching and I'm leaning towards the idea of breaking the space up into diagonal sections (like Wumi suggested) at 30º angles which should create more side to side interest and draw your eye around and down the space, with nice corners for plants that can mature into screening like Angie's garden. I also like the idea of completely seperating the rear of the garden with fencing the same height as the side fences, with a gated opening in. Behind that gate the idea of a japanese inspired secret garden with a water feature and oritental inpisred plants excite me. I'll attach what I've come up with so far. Thanks to everyone that took the time to respond, each comment has been really helpful....See More- 13 days ago
