Any problems with water leaking out with curbless shower?

We're doing a curbless shower with slope going towards the door and a linear drain running along the the door side. Any tips to prevent water from leaking out the door?

Hi, Good question. Of course it depends on the size of the shower, the amount of splashing, and your tolerance for some water on the rest of the floor. One detail we sometimes employ is having a very slight lip (say 1/2" or less) at the door. This helps keep surface water from sloshing out of the shower. Your linear drain is a good idea too. DA

water will always splash out, but many factors on the shower will change how much water splashes how far. IF the idea is troublesome, stay away and install that curb.

I tried blowing the picture up and it looks like the frame of the door ( at the bottom ) does not meet the side strutt, therefore, the water goes around this and through the little gap. If this is the case and you'd need to take a close-up pic, then it's a design fault and i'd send the shower enclosure back to the manufacturer. There would be no way of closing the gap unless you made a piece of rubber of plastic fit the gap and glue it in place then mastik it.

This is what I just sent as mentioned in above comments ^ I think after a lot of deliberation I am going to tone back my design quite a lot and hopefully build a glass conservatory out in the side return after doing the rest of the the renovations inside the back of the house. This is what I would like to do to begin with: With the intension of doing this after the the above is done: Im just trying to find out from a structural point of view if would I need to add a new steel RSJ in above where the current window opening is in order to put in the french windows, or bottom sliding Bi-folds in, and also find out if I have to move the boiler to make this design comply with building regs? If the answer is yes. Then I think I would bite the bullet and move the boiler and put a bigger opening in here to make something more like this: With a the possibility of adding something like this after the main works had been done: I would like the have a glass and steel conservatory sit on a steel conservatory base that is placed on concrete pads. We got delayed by replacing our boiler, so fitting starts in six weeks. So I don’t know yet if the final design is any good! But what we will do is build a false wall on the low side of the room, and then have a 100x120 cm shower tray, with a glass door and panel on one side. We will get the glass cut and fitted by a specialist company. We will have storage in the alcove on the other side of the shower.

Hi Doris. We only filled it up with water at the weekend. It’s had a couple of days and has gone down by around 3” so we can only assume that it is the very top section that wasn’t done again which is the part the big stones are resting on. We left it a couple of weeks to completely dry. This morning yet another order put in for more resin as we have spare fibreglass and paint, so he will have to remove the large edging stones and do that part only next week when we are forecast good weather. We should know in a couple of weeks if it is successful once the water has been emptied and refilled. We really need to get the fish out of the other pond as it’s overcrowded and in the meantime the heron has helped itself to its dinner out of the pond even throwing the big fish it didn’t want in the middle of the lawn. It has been hard work but hopefully we are on the final stretch. We’ve added some discs to try and stop any future herons landing and eating the fish which you can see in the photo. Did a couple of images so you can see what I mean regarding large edging stones. If you click on the image it will enlarge. Good luck with yours.

I love the frosted green tint glass. Can you tell me the type of coating on the glass? What should I ask for to have this look?

That is just normal tempered shower glass. It actually costs more to order glass with a lower iron content that doesn't have the green tint.

size of the shower and direction of the shower head are two primary factors in splashing. Linear drains will keep water from running out, but then a good, single, circular drain is also just fine. Just point the shower head away from the opening and don't try a shower that is less than 36" deep.
