Comments (3)Hi Martin, I hope your Mondays going well. We specialise in Automated Gates. Sadly we don't work in your area. However, we would strongly recommend looking for a specialist installers as incorrectly installed gates can be dangerous, to the point where many in the industry are asking the government to introduce planning permission requirements for electric gates. As far as motors go you can choose between above ground motors and below ground. Below ground motors are more expensive but as they're hidden many people find them more attractive. Above ground motors can be a cheaper option however you will be able to see them on your gate. We usually choose FAAC motors. You may also want to think about what type of intercom system you would like. We Would suggest you contact Citadel Gates in Telford Shropshire. I hope this is of some help to you! Comments (4)I would choose the classical metal gate and with auto/remote opening as that suits the style of house I live in. I think if I lived in a town, city or main road/busy location I would perfer the privacy enhancing fully boarded gates. Comments (9)You will be altering the appearance of the front elevation. Planners, and planning departments, have different interpretations of the rules. It would be prudent to procure some pictures of your proposed gates ,and discuss your ideas informally with the local area planner before incurring any expense. Say you want to tidy up the front ( bins etc ) and provide better security to the dwelling ( a planning consideration ) and sound them out. It should be ok but for a bit of time it saves the potential hassle if they have a local policy and you were to buy gates that were, for instance too high for their liking without planning permission. I have had 2 instances recently were locals have not liked someone's gates and have informed the planners who insisted on a planning application. Either way it should be ok eventually. Good luck....See Morelorispad
