Could you please advise what the kitchen floor tiles are? Thanks

I'm renovating a 500 year old farmhouse in Scotland and am looking for a practical floor for the kitchen and dining area. These tick a lot of my boxes!

This kitchen and breakfast room has a 12x12" ceramic tile floor. Which is a very practical flooring choice, especially since we went with a darker grout, closer in color to the tile. Light grout shows dirt much quicker, creates more maintenance issues. For a busy traffic area like the one you're describing, non-slip, hard surfaces like ceramic or natural stone tile would be a durable choice. Plus, those natural materials better match the age of your farmhouse. Good luck with your renovation!

Hi Maketea! Your project sounds exciting! Unfortunately this tile has been discontinued. Here are some other options that you might like that are similar:

Crossville - Color Blox EC, Color: It's a boy #E1104 or E1113 Blue Suede Shoes
DalTile - Continential Slate, Color: English Gray #CS57
DalTile - Diamante, Color: Grigio #P021 (little more gray than blue)

Sorry, I never came back to my post as I really had to find a paint. It was (minor) panic stations at the start of the week. I settled on wimborne white on three of the walls and then the designers guild cantucci on one wall. It looks really lovely. I not need to decide on kitchen cabinet colours. I've got a bit of time to do that though. Thank you for all of your suggestions. It was really helpful.

I would lose the wooden counter top and pull out larder. Put the hob next door but one to the sink with an extractor above. This will break up the run of wall units. Also think about when you are cooking pasta, filling up a saucepan with water and then draining it. You don't need to cross the room. Where you going to put bin, dishwasher and microwave? I would agree you need more drawers. I love my new pan drawers they hold alot. But my pull out larder does not and things fall down the back all the time. Also when you are taking something out of the oven, where are you going to put it? I never understand why designers put oven and fridges next to one another.

Hello, my previous flat was very similar except your bedroom at the back was the kitchen and your kitchen was a dining room. The main problem with the current layout is when you have very young children and you’re in the kitchen preparing food, you can’t keep and eye on the children or talk to them whilst multi-tasking. If you don’t mind me asking, are all 3 bedrooms currently occupied? If not and only 2 are occupied, I would use the back bedroom as a dining room and can also be used for the kids to play. When you come to sell, depending on how many children you have then, you could always carve up the living room to make a very small bedroom on the left. These flats are great when there are only 2 people, it just gets a bit challenging when the family expands. Also you don’t want to spend too much money renovating if you are going to sell in the future.

Thank you so much for your help and advice. It's much appreciated. And thanks for the 'good luck' .... With the snow coming in from the holes in the roof, to the rain running off the hills and ascending (no damp course in those days) there wasn't a dry (3' thick solid stone) wall in the place! But we're getting there... no small thanks to Houzz and the real inspiration and tales of hope from contributors therein :-)

Oh dear - all that moisture! Yes, natural stone or ceramic flooring is the best way to go. That, and a solid roof overhead! May you catch a break with a mild winter!
