Ugly box bay window, ideas please
Comments (11)Hiya, We always recommend making a feature of a bay window, especially in a living space. Choose 3 separate blinds that follow the windows - Roman blinds are a popular choice as they create a luxurious feel, though if you're overlooked you might like something with slats, like shutters as you suggest. Framing the window with dress curtains is a lovely addition too - as you mention, the close-in curtains can make the window feel smaller, so consider a wider curtain pole to make the most of the space and light. Hope that helps, Zoe...See MoreWhat do I do with these two windows?
Comments (9)The thing is if you go for long curtains, when you pull them you will be blocking all the heat from the radiator that sits under the window, which is daft. Admittedly longer curtains certainly add to a luxurious feel, but blocking your source of heat behind them won't work. Thus, I would stick to sill length curtains, but make the most of how they are made. Double pinch pleat with little buttons and a beautiful pole will add luxury.Chenille or velvet in a plain gold or beautiful white would look stunning. Curtains to Go . You could also do either of the above ( chenille or velvet ) in silver Silver Chenille, Silver velvet As an alternative ( because of the radiator ), Why not go for Thermal backed Roman blinds to drop at night, with full length curtains that you don't draw and are for show only. Combining silver curtains such as those above with a lovely white plush blind in a similar material or dupion silk ( maybe with a little texture ) solves the problems. Comments (7)I love your furniture! The couch, chair and ottoman look so cosy. I would add some textured throws to the couch and chair, and a couple more cushions. I'd also pull them away from the walls slightly, as this will actually make the space feel larger. The wall behind the couch is crying out for some art- it really depends on your taste and budget, but you could go with a couple of really large canvases, or a photo gallery with lots of mismatched frames? Just don't hang them too high! The lamp beside the armchair would be great standing on a side table, and I'd add another side table with a lamp beside the couch where the big box is. The room would definitely feel cosier with lamps on and the overhead lights off. For storage, I'd go for built in every time! I'm biased as I love my own built in shelves so much. They definitely make a room feel cosy and finished. I'd be tempted to build floor to ceiling on the tv wall, with shelves above and cupboards below. The only issue there I think is the height of the tv...could it be lowered? It seems uncomfortably high. If it can't be moved, then long low shelving would work better than a full height unit....See MoreLarge window at end of narrow hallway... roman blind or curtains?
Comments (25)You can get a wide enough kit. I’ve seen them up to 2.4 m wide, such as this one below. https://www.curtainsandblinds4homes.co.uk/Deluxe-Roman-Blinds-Kits-Cassette-1-1-Ratio-upto-6Kgs/Roman-blind-kit-cassette-240cms. I’ve recently finished one that’s 210 wide & it doesn’t sag in the middle at all so a bit wider should be ok. Just a pain to join the fabric for a wider blind. However, as the window is quite low, I wonder whether long curtains might provide a better finish. Agree that eyelet curtains wouldn’t create too much bulk & look nice stacked back at the side of the window. I found eyelet curtains much easier to make than Roman blinds!...See Moreran k
