Help us stop our new kitchen from going clinical!
Comments (43)I thought I'd update everyone as to what we settled on as most of you won't have seen the finished post. Went went for Little Greene French Pale Grey on the walls and then a Grey Quartz worktop which had worked quite well. To stop it from being clinical, we opted for some textured wallpaper in the dining area which is Bala Storm (I think) from John Lewis. We then added some natural tones using a wooden table, and then Vitra chairs. Along with wooden fruit bowl etc. The main window will have wooden venetian blinds, and the bay windows will probably be done in a darker grey material as the perfect fit style blinds you find in conservatories...See MoreKitchen advice please
Comments (36)My kitchen was slightly larger but needed the light units. We went with a white gloss, a wood effect dark grey laminate worktop and teamed it with walnut effect laminate flooring. The flooring really warmed the look up In my experience ... I wish I'd have had full glass splashbacks as the amount of sauce that gets splattered on the painted wall would have been easier to wipe off glass! Worth the money in my opinion. I went for white/clear as didn't want to commit to a strong colour. If we had stayed (not sold it) I would have painted around the units a colour which could have easily been changed. You could also consider a clear glass splash back (above the oven) that can be screwed on. That way you can paint or paper behind it and change it when you fancy. Usually they glue them on so you are stuck with it (no pun intended) Definitely look around for a better quality gloss unit as they can chip (sister has high street ones and they always chip!)...See MoreF&B black blue vs off black kitchen units
Comments (115)Hello! It’s arrived but is being fitted Monday :0) The colour wasn’t quite what I wanted as although it’s not supposed to have any blue in it, if can look blue in some lights. I don’t mind it looking deep navy but sometimes it looks lighter. Will see when it’s all up though as with the worktop on the island and overhang, it will probably just look more black! Bear in mind the company didn’t use actually F&B paints as they mix their own. Definately advises paying for a test door first as they got the colour totally wrong at first (was bright blue!) and it was hard work getting the manufacturers to check it and do it again. They almost didn’t....See MoreKitchen colours
Comments (14)Thanks for the comments to date! We're thinking of going white counters (prob with speck) and darker matt grey perhaps RAL 7015 Slate Grey or RAL 7016 Anthracite) for the island and lower sink run cabinet doors. Then either all wood doors for the oven wall (although we can't get handleless so might not be ideal) or the off-white matt and keep the wood surround and drawer fronts.. An idea to make the island counter less bright is to do as in the image below. We could use the same Grey Oak wood as elsewhere by double boarding and edging it. Similarly, I think we could get the Quartz people to create a deeper counter (as in pic) so we have a different level between the two mediums. Does anyone think this could work? Also, the upper units on the sink run wall are still undecided. As is, they stand out as are deeper than the steel column (to right) and aren't symmetrical (one to left, two to right). Does anyone have any ideas on how to design this section, especially the gap where the steel is? Right now we are thinking of just replacing with open shelves but if there's a more stylish way of redesigning this section, I'd appreciate any ideas!...See MoreLeslie Brooks
