Houzz Live Chat - Tips for dressing your windows, September 4th, 3pm
Comments (81)Hiya Jill, thanks for sending those images over. In response to your first question about your bedroom, I can think of a couple of solutions that may work. The first is the same solution as my previous French window answer to @montbray and fit something that moves with the window, either a Pleated or a Venetian which operate under tension and open with a thumb tab rather than a cord. Alternatively, it would look quite nice if a blind, particularly a Roman blind was fitted right to the top of the wall above the window, at the ceiling. This will allow the blind to be ‘dressed’ to form a valance effect above the window when the blind is open, giving full view from, and use of the window and when it is closed, it will give the illusion of the window being taller. In the case of your bathroom blind, you might like to try a waterproof Roller blind made from PVC fabric. Alternatively, Faux wood blinds are a really great idea, as they have all the look of traditional Wooden blinds, but won't warp in wet or steamy conditions. Admittedly, it is a difficult window to dress and there are not a lot of options, but hopefully, these will give you some ideas. Sarah...See MoreAga inset problem
Comments (3)Hi Lisa, Loving the royal blue Aga such a timeless colour. I would suggest for the spaces either side of the Aga to work with them rather than against them. As they are only 17cm wide I would suggest some open shelving you could store cookbooks or recipe books here even the odd small appliance ie weighing scales etc. Or if you don't like the look of ope shelves you could get some base units made up. I wouldn't just plaster over them as it seems like a waste of storage space. I love the idea of the cream subway tiles in the alcove of the fireplace. I would then paint the chimney breast in a different colour so it stands out. What will be the colour rest of the kitchen units? Hope this was helpful, let us know if you have any other questions. Comments (2)American fridges are always deeper and also they are not integrated at all. Some models are just a little bit deeper than the standard tall units, I.e. 600mm, and you might find that measurement matches your fridge depth less the door thickness. Just make sure there is also enough clearance for the fridge doors to open....See MoreElectric AGA advice
Comments (25)I inherited an electric AGA 6 years ago and got rid of it last summer. Replaced it with a LaCanche. Best decision I have ever made. Could not cope with how dirty the top of the Aga looked. Even if you wiped it down after every use, as it is hot most of day it attracts dust! So constantly looked dusty! The heat from AGA attracted dust in whole kitchen - I have black granite work tops so they constantly looked dusty as well! Drove me mad! It did keep kitchen warm, but only the kitchen. Never had to put underfloor heating on - obviously now have to having got rid of AGA. I only had AGA (with electric module attached - which I found too long to pre heat so never used it) - so AGA was on all year round. This made kitchen unbearable in summer. Can't say I have noticed that much difference in saving on running costs of AGA compared with having to put heating on. Think they equal each other out. I also didn't like the way AGA cooked at times. You could never properly get timings right when cooking because you can not control heat. If you are cooking big meal or even roast, and if you use the plates for too long this takes heat out of ovens and food takes longer to cook. It was hit and miss when dinner would be ready! . I knew I would miss simmer oven in AGA for slow cooking etc but my LaCanche has a simmer oven. I would never ever have an AGA again. I think there are far better options out there....See MoreOnePlan
