Choosing a wall color

We are purchasing this house and it has beautiful pine ceilings and chair rails with light wood floors. We want to paint a burnt orange or terracotta color but worry it would be too much with all the pine. We have a chocolate brown 3 piece sectional to coordinate with. Help! What colors would go well?

Also metro sub/way tiles on walls - whether to go for a sage tile or cream/white... The dining room area off the kitchen will have oak parquet floor which will follow through from hall and will also be in the lounge but Im thinking of following the wall colour in the kitchen through to the dining room for continuity and potentially painting the chimney brest or wall furthest away from and facing the kitchen a darker green complementary colour... Comments (7)Well it looks like a nice bright room so I guess you have so many choices it can get overwhelming. For wallpapers I can recommend John Lewis's own especially if you don't want to spend a lot. Comments (1)Hi nicolaarmstrong5379 Many colours could work well with that sofa - it depends on your preferred scheme and the room you're planning to use it in. My initial reaction is to recommend an "earthy" colour such as a Farrow & Ball green. Cooking Apple Green is a very popular selection: But depending on the room, you could opt for a much more daring colour that compliments the traditional styling of the sofa such as Farrow & Ball - Tanner's Brown Or if brown isn't your colour, Farrow & Ball - Stone Blue could really make the room a talking piece. 10 years agoTerracotta walls works well with pine, but ensure it is a true terracotta rather than orange. Bring the room scheme together with your brown suite with cushions which have all these colour's in them, with perhaps adding an accent colour like teal and a rug, to form a cohesive look, without being too contrived. These colour's could be added with art work on the walls and crockery.

10 years agoI guess what I would say is that you now have orange but in a different form (wood) so you may want to limit your additions of orange accents to something more in that family (more amber than red) - find sometones and neutrals that will work nicely with chocolate and amber. Red will work well - even red on the orange side, especially if we can find a fabric that combines the amber tones and red with some warm neutrals that relate back to the chocolate.
It also depends a lot on your personal style. The home has some traditional elements in a sort of contemporary frame. So, if you resonate more to the traditional elements, I might suggest you paint the kitchen cabinets - red cabinets would be fabulous in the house and give it a fresh country charm with those arch topped doors. If you aren't ready to paint cabinets, you could shift your terracotta over to red and it would sing in here. [houzz=]

With all the wood, the easy solution is to do a soft green on the walls - the tone they have on the walls now is a camoflauge color selected because it has enough green in it not to fight with the warmth in the wood tone. But if you love red - that is a great shade with chocolate, and then you can incorporate amber, terracotta and red fabrics . .samanthajmcgowan thanked libradesigneye- PRO
