Staging Living Room and Dining Room

We will be staging this home with an ivory sofa, glass table in the living area and an ivory (fabric) and pecan dining set in the dining area. Will the room look too bland if I choose neutral pillows like tan, brown and black in this area (kind of like the Kreiss look) or is this space crying for color? The last photo shows our mirror and brass chandelier that we used to have up there before the renters moved in Are these items outdated as far as color, style and/or too intricate for staging purposes? There is a lamp in dining now. Does that look too small? Back to the pillows. If I stage with brown, black, tan and ivory pillows do I need to keep the same color going in the items on the coffee table or can I use a colorful plant? Thanks so much. I don't expect an answer to everything, but any answers to any questions will be greatly appreciated.

10 years agoPersonally as you have such a great space here, and fantastic ceiling height, I would opt to inject some colour into the room. Neutral tones work well to brighten a room and give the perception of it being a larger space, but this room already has all of those features!
If you're a little wary about brighter colours, I would consider introducing a duck egg blue. It blends well with the ivory tones in your sofa, will reflect beautifully off the glass top of your table whilst still adding that extra punch that you're after.
Coppers work well with this colour palette as well, adding warmth and a touch of elegance to the space whilst maintaining the lightness that this room has to offer (the attached photo gives an idea of how they work together).

Comments (15)I like the room. Personally I would go for a dark colour on the tv wall so the tv etc blends in. Rather than buy a new rug I would spend the money on a cane and rattan chair, there are a few around ATM at really reasonable prices and you can pick up velvet curtains cheaply. I would also add another large plant. I couldn't get a wall colour similar to the one in the other pic but maybe look at something like this or just the cabinet colour. When budget allows I would add an arc lamp behind the sofa and a table lamp on the sideboard as this will add to a cosy feeling....See More

10 years agoGood morning, sdsunn! It would be nice if a home staging pro would spot your dilemma and comment. I'm not a home stager, but I would think a patterned rug is just fine as long as you are creating a fresh and modern (and slightly neutral) feel to the space.
I keep seeing a simple, organic look working well in this space. Something that really connects to the outside of the house.
Showing below some indoor/outdoor rugs, which would lay easily over the carpet in the LR, and being this fresh feel to the room, as well as take the formal feel of the room down a notch.
If you are able to re-use the rug in your new home, either on a patio or in a sunroom - in your entryway even - then you could choose a pattern/color you yourself can live with.
I would not bother putting a rug under the DR table. The hardwood is beautiful!
