New Built House! How to decorate.
Comments (1)Hello Trisha, If it's a new built house maybe you would want to go for contemporary style interior. I would suggest you to make a moodboard where you put down all your ideas, favourite colours and texture, furniture pieces you like, accessories and decoration. This way you will save money by avoiding spending money on unnecessary things. You will be able to develop your idea and come up with a great concept. Let your home reflect your personal taste and style. Comments (7)Hi I have laminate in all of my rooms, even in my bedrooms. We used QuickStep persepective 4V antique oak planks, a bit more expensive than some laminates but we have had the flooring down for about 10 years and it is as good as new. We use a rug in each living room but have no rugs in the bedrooms. We have had an older dog and a puppy on this flooring and they have been fine. I like the fact that I can Hoover and mop it and it's good as new. An ordinary mop gets between the joints of the flooring so any dog accidents aren't a problem. I have a vinyl type flooring in the kitchen diner, it's made by Polyflor and comes in a wide variety of designs and colours, this too is excellent. My husband and I laid all the laminate flooring in our house and it was quite easy once you've laid a few planks....See MoreI think I hate our newly restored floorboards obsessively
Comments (22)Not sure on the exact science of this but use Tea! From what I can gather is that new pine lacks in tannin which is present in most woods particularly woods like oak, mahogany etc. but not so much in new pine. Over time the tannins do balance out but could take many years hence why the older floorboards (which are lovely btw) have a much more even tone. Solution is to wash freshly sanded new pine with a fairly strong brew of black tea (quantity/ratio not sure). Tea contains tannin so basically you’re adding it to the wood before staining, varnishing, oiling and so on. Might be a bit late if you’ve already oiled the zebra floor boards as it needs to absorb into the wood but thought I’d let you know if you plan to do steps. Do bear in mind that this finish may appear darker so perhaps use a lighter stain and absolutely test first. Here’s a link which isn’t great but sort of explains: https://sawsonskates.com/tea-stain-wood-furniture/...See MoreLaminated floor vs teak furniture
Comments (10)The old flooring is going, we will be knocking down the wall between the dining room and the kitchen. The idea was to have a very light blue kitchen units with white marble coloured laminated worktop. I thought I’d replace the laminated flooring with a similar one, + underfloor heating. We need to keep to lighter tones, as the kitchen could be dark, especially during winter months. The sideboard was a spontaneous addition. After seeing it in the dining room, I’ve realised I might need to rethink the flooring options....See Moredfromthebdot
