Thank you Elena, the client had a lot of input and it was a lot of fun working with her. We were responsible for the Interior Design inside, soft design, furniture etc. The lantern was purchased from Davey Lighting, you can purchase this on line. Warm regards, Rebecca.

Did you go ahead with this work and what glass did you go with? having work done to create a playroom in a north facing garden too. going with a combination of tiled and glass roof, just need to decide on which kind of glass ? blue for better temperature control or neutral.

We put our roof lantern as close to the main wall as possible to provide maximum light to the original space (and its easy to clean from the upstairs room with a telescopic brush!). also Not over the cooking space so there's a stronger ceiling for your cooker hood. We were able to have a flat-roof velux also further out, which allows extra venting, as long as its not raining (it auto-closes in rain) A high sidewall window opening out gives us venting when it's raining. The final genius idea was to have a neat overhang of our sliding doors - we can have the door open in rain, and we have LEDs that make it look gorgeous at night (would work for pets too I suspect. Ours is south-facing so solar gain was more our problem, but this new room with high grade insulation is noticeably toastier than the rest of our house.

Hi Sana We have created bespoke lighting solutions for people in the past. Yours is a tricky set up and depends where the power source comes from but perhaps a bar suspended across the lantern with pendants hanging from it is an option. Or a lengthy bar across the whole island that also goes across the gap. Email some photos to sales@nigeltyas.co.uk if you want us to take a look at it for you. Where should we place our roof lantern?

Put the window as close to the existing room as possible as the extension will make this darker. We did this on the advice of our architect and I am so glad we did as I did not appreciate how much darker the existing space would become with the extension.
