Need help with lounge layout and design …

1 dbl bed apartment located in Victoria Park Village, London with large lounge for single woman in late 30's. Its an old school having been conveted some 12 yrs ago.
Have collected lovely pieces of danish crafted furniture with the thought not to clog up the room too much and I would like to create area spaces for lounge and dining.
Really want to put that 'luxe touch' on the space using colour and texture so my dilemma is what sort of rug(s) would you choose; would they be the same? How would you position them with the furniture and the newly fitted roman blinds in my favourite colour? Ideally looking to bring some warmth to the lounge area. The old fireplace really is a feature of the room and also looking for ideas to make this whole wall 'pop' including re-vamp of the TV area entirely … In a word 'Help!

Comments (5)What a lovely space to work with! I also like your colors and your furniture. My suggestion would be to divide your dining and living room space by using a black,( antique or distressed finish) to tie in the rough brick in your living room)) low and narrow wooden bench with chunky legs behind your sofa. I would place 3 large containers to hold tall and yellowish-green plants on top, such as tall grasses and lower-growing grasses; straight -growing plants. The plant containers might include one outstanding tall tubular container, one large but lower bowl-like container, and one smaller but quirkily-shaped container with a vine-like plant. I see your containers varying from charcoal to black , clear glass, and colored glass. That's one thought for the elements to put on the bench. The other thought is a very modern arcing desk-top-style light so that you could have light to read over the sofa. I don't see why not leave the fireplace where it is now and still do what you want - a false chimney breast built with an electric fire and TV built into it. 9 years agolast modified: 9 years agoI take a while to think. So far, I'm thinking match the storage on the left of the fireplace in style to the shelves above (I gave you three little handles on this one to echo the buttons on your couch). Art, companion in style to the striking piece you have, to the right of the fireplace above the chair. You can go all sorts of ways with a rug; I'd fancy eclectic with a Persian or kilim style. I'm not sure you will need a rug under the dining table.
I'm also thinking about an acrylic cube sidetable for the guest chair. Don't know yet about possible coffee tables, it might depend on what rug you choose.

9 years agoRina - Thank you for taking the time to think about this; here's a picture of the room and the rug that is currently there … I thought along the same lines as you (prior to having the blind fitted) a really bold slightly persian print but the colours are all wrong … Still not sure I can do pattern on pattern and leaning toward a deep pile Morrocan style 'benoin' rug or now thinking an area rug that would sit both the guest chair and sofa bed on it. Thanks for the idea for the TV area, I have a carpenter coming aroundin the next few weeks to add storage to the entrance hall so might do this, otherwise was thinking a larger TV fitted to a bracket on the wall, removing the lower shelf? I would never have thought to add some art to the right side as suggest which i think would look great, so thank you. If for some reason I can not drill into the brick have you any ideas for the space within the fireplace? Karinbee has had a great idea in sourcing a narrow antique / distressed tabel or bench for behind the sofa adding some plants on top which I think i will go for :) Thank you again for your input ...

9 years agoTree branch in that space! With a small uplight! I think you can keep all the colors--the rug, the brick, the cool yellow chair if you go full-on Kim Parker.
