Adding glitter to paint.

Hi,
I would like to add some glitter to paint my daughters bedroom and wondered if anyone had done this before and had any tips and techniques?
I guess it shouldnt be added to the whole tin on the last coat but any advice welcome!

the best way to add glitter is to add it to varnish as this is a clear medium. If you add it to paint the it covered in the paint colour. kr jaimie k

Me personally would paint wall then when last coat is still damp I'd throw the glitter at the wall x

most paints just get the glitter added to it so you can use any paint and have them add the glitter

Rachel: Very nice, but you could've just bought glitter wallpaper y'know? Yeah I know that, but where's the fun in that? Also, my niece has glitter wallpaper in her room and I personally think that it looks awful. It's totally not the same. Also, I'm a man - So I want/have to spend loads more time, loads more money, and loads more effort on doing something that £25's wallpaper would achieve. I wouldn't have been doing it for my brothers out there if I did anything easy. I want to do a job that I can constantly moan about, make a big fuss over, make loads of unnecessary mess, and come across as a total hero to everyone that I tell. What I did was a million times better story than "I put up a few strips of wallpaper" :) AS: Valspar at B and Q do glitter ..... This is actually where I started. Talk about a massive con. It's just paint, with a tiny sachet of really fine glitter (like the old salt'n'shake crisps) that you need to open, pour in, and mix yourself. I would definitely not call it 'glitter paint' by any stretch, more 'standard paint with the odd random piece of glitter'. Now I've purchased the furniture, and put up a few shelves it's actually starting to become a really nice room. It just needs sorting out then it's pretty much complete:

I don’t think it’s a crazy idea, very smart if you can find a close match. Even if the carcasses are slightly different, you (or a carpenter) can make up some doors to match your current ones. I like your latest layout. Personally, I’d move the stove to the right of the sink (where the toaster is, put the ovens in the island with some drawer for pots, pans, baking stuff. That way you can reduce the cabinetry around the fridge, and centre it on the wall with 2 narrow tall cupboards (40cm) either side. Great for a pull-out pantry. I think this will zone the areas a bit better. Cooker and ovens close together, pantry and fridge close together etc.

A rather messy way of going about it and would have a very uneven distribution of the glitter. By using a matt varnish you dont see it over the paint. Just make sure you give vanish a regular swirl so that the glitter doesnt just sink in the tray. The other bonus is the varnish is highly resistant and in childs bedroom it keeps the walls in good condition for longer

Have you thought about maybe wallpapering one wall with glitter wallpaper? Might be easier! There are some lovely coloured ones on eBay.

You can buy paint that already sparkles. We once used a blue colour from B&Q's own range in our kitchen and it was gorgeous. Sorry was our old house so no photos to hand!
