Living room layout - would love some advice
Comments (7)So since I posted about 6 weeks ago we now have a lovely wooden floor, fire has been removed and left chimney breast with cables available so we can mount the TV. Have our old sofas sat side by side under the window but still not sure how to plan it all out. Hopefully once painted and we start visiting some furniture shops the rest will just fall into place :) thanks all for comments, would welcome any ideas...See MoreHelp! Comments (12)Depending on how many people watch tv, I'd try the same As Carolina's 2nd suggestion but with one chair where the tv is angled towards the sofa (but not pushed right against the wall) with the tv in the other alcove. I do agree with Emily though! Seating arrangements are important for a cosy/homely feel but so are various other elements so why not post pictures so people can make suggestions? If you've got the space I'd also add a slim console behind the sofa as it will give the feeling of separation from the hall. You can pick up ones that are 25cm deep so could always move the sofa forward a fraction. If you don't want to add pics then think lighting, art, plants, colour, a range of different textures, books, diffuser or scented candle plus a rug to zone the seating area and perhaps some things that have meaning to you. Do you also have anything in the dining area other than a table? I have an obsession with cocktail trollies (and it's costing us a fortune with a g&t or 2 after work for my husband! ) but they're great for when socialising and needn't just contain alcoholic drinks if you don't drink!...See MoreFront door in centre - Living Room Layout Design Hell
Comments (9)Whilst I would also prefer a hallway as the entrance at least you have the porch so people are not immediately in your living room when you open the door. It's a lovely room and i think the existing furniture arrangement is much better than using it as one big space. I'd keep the tv over on the fire side of the room because it will be a cosier space at night and is a feature. It's then away from the staircase which might be draughty and more of a thoroughfare. I also have trouble visualising how the under staircase tv would work.(although maybe One plan has a good idea for this. I'd then use the other half of the room as your snug/reading area with a couple of chairs and bookcase between the two doors. I'd use a large rug to define and bring this area together. You might also have room for a small console type table next to the front door to drop keys, phones etc. Alternatively, if you have your sofa in the same position as the existing pic you could have a sofa table (see pics below, lots of different types depending on your style) behind it for the same purpose as well as adding interest rather than just seeing the back of the sofa. Good luck....See MoreOpen plan kitchen/living room layout advice
Comments (11)What you might find is that if you take this info to a kitchen designer that the layout provided will be completely different to what your architect has (surprisingly) come up with. Personally as a designer, I’d have a completely different take on this room area - but then I Design Kitchens and space concepts for a living - (but ask me to design a building with roof angles and all that that entails etc and I’d be out of my depth a little ! ) So it’s just a case of choosing someone who specialises in this particular area really - we are independent so we don’t sell products that would include a profit - so we charge for our services and work with you over a week to thrash it out - but then you can shop around easily by dropping in a copy of the plans and asking for their best price and haggle for discounts that are often far greater than our design fee. Alternatively you can book loads of studios to each send over their sales people to each come over and measure and each then design a scheme and each then try to win the sale by inviting you to go through their ideas in their studio. Although this is ‘free’ it’s maybe a tad more time consuming, repetitive and you don’t usually have much input. If you click on my name or icon you can read some comments from past clients who’ve tried this way !...See MoreiMarc-Pro Architects
