Bedroom wall colours

We would like to change our bedroom walls to a silver grey. Some greys have a hint of lavender when they are on the walls which we don't want. Can I have some suggestions on grey colours please? Many thanks. Maureen

Hi Anna, have you considered a monochrome interior? The versatility of monochrome allows it to be combined effortlessly with other styles such as Scandinavian or industrial chic. It’s an easy look to achieve and if done correctly looks stunning. You just need to remember to vary tints and shades of a single colour to great effect otherwise you’ll end up with a ‘monotonous’ look. If you’re looking to create a softer Scandinavian approach to your living room then select brown shades. Warm up the monochrome palette with a super-soft carpet, such as Cormar’s lustrous Sensation collection, and lots of cosy textures that soften the edges and keep it homely. Hope that helps!

I found the Dulux Visualator, or whatever it’s called, to be pretty useless. I used it once to visualise my old sitting room colour just to see how accurate it was. My walls were Dulux Elderflower so compared it on the Dulux online thingy and it was completely different!

Hi Claire, Lovely carpet, I think I can visualise where you are with this. Bedrooms need to be soothing and a timeless colour that usually works is blue. In its most delicate tone its always soothing and restful. Just be a bit careful as to whether you have southerly or northerly light coming in, because as you probably already know, blue can read quite cold and dark even in a lighter colour if you get north/west light in at the window. In a sunny southerly room it will seem much warmer and welcoming. Green (a very pale soft warm yellow based green is a great way to enhance a darker room, combined with neutrals. So if your room is a little dark for most of the day, it's likely to need this injection of a warmer tone. Do get a Dulux tester pot, paint it onto a piece of A4 and blue tack it up. Live with it for a day or so, walk past it morning. noon and night and you'll know immediately if it works. If you're not sure about a colour, it's not right. Thanks both. I know rooms can be different colours (as mine are!) but the point I was trying to make is that the bathroom is directly off of her room and so in some ways it appears to be the same room. I would like there to be a natural flow so it feels like it is the same room, if that makes sense! But then again I suppose people have their ensuites completely different colours to their bedrooms don't they?
