Better bathroom layout?

Hi,

About to start renovating my upstairs and was wondering if I have the best bathroom layout as all looks a bit tight on plan. Currently room is going to be 2.65m long by 2.0m wife but could steal some room off the bedroom if needed to make it a little wider - anyone see a better layout? Thanks!

Is this the Family bathroom? I can see you have two other bathrooms near by. Is the bath the most important thing here, if so then it's ok. Otherwise I might think the shower tray and the basin are a bit small, and I would be trying to fit slightly larger ones. A vanity with storage would be ideal. The door into the bathroom could be smaller to increase shower tray. How are you going to finish the bath on the RHS? It would look better to take a stone top all the way over to meet the wall. Looks like you have an exciting project underway. Good Luck.

Thanks Emma, we are going to lose one f the ensuites nearby (we gain a large walk in wardrobe so not all bad!) as not needed until kids are older and unfortunately need the bath for the kids (5, 7 and 8). I agree that the shower tray looks small and would try and make it a bit bigger. Vanity unit sounds like a good idea. Not sure whether to go for a standard bath or freestanding - the latter would probably make the room look bigger but actually take up more space! Thanks for your comments!

See below the plan of the house as I bought it: Practically I have removed the partition walls as I wanted to open the space up and the wall between the bath and the kitchen as it was affected by damp. Here is how it looks now: I can play around only this space as the other walls are load bearing. One of the builders assured me we can chase the drain pipes without much hassle. The hallway would have some light through the kitchen door and its transom with the larger kitchen option. In case of the smaller kitchen, there would be plenty of light in the hallway from the bathroom and kitchen as I considered glass between kitchen and hallway. Thanks

Both Hansgrohe and (Friedrich) Grohe are German companies; Friedrich was a son of Hans who went on his own in the 1930s, so they share a certain heritage. These days, Grohe is larger and no longer family owned. Both produce outside Germany as well as on their original German sites still. Both produce "basic" and "high-end" ranges. They're both regarded well back home in Germany, much of the choice is down to personal preference. Hansgrohe is on average slightly more expensive (but not on everything). They also own the Axor design brand which has a more "ecletic" selection. One can mix-and-match; in our bath (bit messy, sorry - we're using it for the washing up while waiting for the kitchen to be installed), the mixer is Grohe as is the shower wall outlet, the shower rail and head shower arm (just above the shower screen) are Hansgrohe pieces. At least the chromed finishes are very close for the two: Both can be sourced well below retail list prices - if you're prepared to wait, German online sellers for bathroom goods tend to have many-months delivery timelines. For Grohe essentials (the classical Grotherm mixers) at least, any German DIY shop stocks these at very attractive prices (the difference to the UK retail price list will pay for the ferry ticket and fuel).

I don’t think the current plan would work well. The gap between shower & bath is too small to be useful & will just be awkward to clean. Plus the shower enclosure stocked out in the way of the sink. I’d put the shower on the opposite side where the toilet is now. Rotate the bath 90 degrees so that it’s along the wall & go for a short bath so you can put the toilet on the same wall.

I don’t think it works for several reasons. Freestanding bath sit best in the middle of a wall or window. I also think there is insufficient space to clean the floor around the bath, I think it will annoy you to splash the outside of the shower cubicle with bath water, it’s a pity to not be able to have a sink mirror because it’s got a window where the mirror would go. And I prefer not to see the WC first when entering a bathroom. You could substitute a panel bath for the freestanding one which would help because they take up less space but I I think you have to ask yourself where there is room for the dresser and whether the room would be easier to use with a replan

In my opinion it would be better to have it a little wider so that the toilet doesn’t have to share a bedroom wall. ( and therefore less likely to be disturbed by nighttime bathroom visits)

I like the design as drawn ... have you seen it in panoramic view or any 3D type images ? ( like we have in our pro page ) that may help you get a better feel for the space ?
If you go for a virtually frameless shower enclosure and a large mirror over the basin - it will still feel spacious, in my opinion.
