colour for frames for art in dining room

framing 4 pieces of original art in my dining room. Four frames in a big square and I am thinking about gold but is the current trend gold gold or brass gold ?? Also should I paint the side board and buy a new chandelier?? I know you can't see the sideboard but it is cherry wood. I just think it would be too black and cream if I used the black frame. The accent colour is a darkish blue.

Love the art and gold frames are still a good choice.

You really need to get a new light fixture. That one ruins the look you have going in your room.

I like the idea of adding gold into the palette of your black, off-white and glass. It will look upscale. I do not mind mixing wood types and stains, the current on you sideboard looks too red. I would re finish in a more walnut color perhaps. Chandelier with gold metal would be very nice and tie in frames.

Love love love your colour scheme and art. I would definitely put some art on the TV wall though. I like both of the pieces you chose, but I'd actually go for something even bigger and bolder! And I think the clock though fabulous is maybe not right on that wall? Not sure why...maybe it will look better when you move it lower.

I saw something similar in John Lewis a few years ago but thought I could replicate it for a fraction of the cost ..... And it worked. I bought an inexpensive square stretched canvas on a frame from The Range. I painted the whole lot with left over emulsion paint then made a circle template with paper to cover the edges. I then spattered three colours of metallic paint over it by having the canvass flat on the floor and flicking the paint off a brush from above. The end result looked very professional and everyone admired it. It would still be up today had it not got damaged during a house move.

First find a chandelier you like . This will determine the stain for your sideboard. The frame in a light gold or silver (or combination of the two) should be determined by the art it is framing. Also, the frames you have in this picture seem a little too thin.

Yes, I think you need a glam chandelier to go with your elegant space(s). Champagne Gold is the latest trend and it's quite pretty. This is "off the wall". How about when you hang the four prints, do Black/Gold on the top, then Gold/black on the bottom? It will look interesting and artistic...or a hot mess but worth a try.

I echo the comments to get a new chandelier.

A new chandelier would really improve the look of the space.

Try to find frame &/or chandelier in the newer champagne or winter gold. These are not so brassy & shiny. Softer look, but will contrast enough, I think

The reflective nature of the gold tones would at a nice touch to the wall and be a great accent. Coordinating with a new chandelier would really finish it off nicely.

Your home is lovely. A new light fixture, definitely. How about lightening up the dining chairs? The others might be a little too office conference style.

I think you have done a great job with this room! It looks very sophisticated. A new light fixture will put that added sparkle in the room. I think the black frames tie in well with your curtain rod and the chairs and look great. If you want to add some gold you could do an above the photos cord hanger that would add some bling to the mix. Add some sparkly accessories on the console such as a mosaic mirrored vase. I couldn't find good examples of hanging pictures with cords with a knob at the top, but here are some variations on the theme as close as I could find. I have used tassel cords and gold hardware at the top to hold the cord and it looks really nice and fills out the wall and accentuates the photos with added interest. For your pictures I would make the cord much longer and mount the cords a little closer together. If there is crystal in your new chandelier you could use crystal cabinet knobs for the hanger in the middle with a gold accent. These do not actually hold the pictures but are decorative and added to the photos. I noticed you have crystal candle stick holders on the coffee table and crystal knobs or something with the crystal would add rhythm to the accessories around the room. Use your imagination because the photos are nothing like what I was hoping to find but you get the idea of using cord and a knob above the picture as a design element. ?

these "vintage" frames are original to the 70's art, but work well in contemporary classic style. I added the silver strip of paint and highlights to tie it in with my mixed metals choices (both shiny and brushed silver and gold)

This may not be what you're looking for, but...

I would paint the room a lighter color. doesn't need to be white or grey, just maybe an off-white that has a tinge of warmth to it.

With the walls lighter, you can do more to play up your color choice of Navy blue - perhaps with mostly white curtains but crisp blue accents in it.

Then definately ditch that chandelier - it's so 70's contemporary. Look for something that appeals to you, but doesn't take up too much visual space - which that one does.

Then, I prefer black picture frames. With the whole room lightened, they would work well, and metalics may not pop enough against light walls. Maybe even do Navy/cobalt for the frames...

And as for your sideboard, paint that too. Perhaps bring in a blue that will complement the Navy, but no so much match it. Not all the blues have to match, but usually it's more relaxing to have them all be "cool" shades or "warm" shades. (Watch an episode of "Doc Martin" - they have the coolest shade of blue as color splashes of the houses (doors, trim, etc. - it's my new favorite!)

My answer comes from my work as an exhibiting fine art photographer and concerns the frames for your four pieces of fine art. German silver is the color name for frame molding that is a light, warm silver/gold mix. I'd suggest considering that frame color .

Your home is lovely, I agree that a new chandelier would be nice, I rather like the last one posted by leelee, the metal would add some bling, and the shade would pick up on the drapes. For the frames, I would keep them in black, and a little larger than what you have. Looking at your picture that you posted, that side of the room needs a dark Color to offset the dark arms on the chairs on the opposite side of the room. As for the sideboard, cherry wood is beautiful, but if you think it appears too red, maybe a stain in something such as walnut would be beautiful. Good luck with whatever you choose.

The frames should all be the same color. You are framing the pictures, not picturing the frames. The frames should be a little larger. I also like the silver/gold color or all black for the pictures frames. The chandelier should have personality but not bling.
