Design help urgently needed

We have just decorated our larg lounge, I have looked at thousand fabrics for curtains and rugs and still no nearer to finding what complement or tie the room together. My sectional sofa is black leather and so is the wood stove in the corner also there is a floating black cabinet under The television. The walls are white, I want heavy curtains and a contempary look, I would like the room to look inviting please help. Sincerely Alison

Ok firstly, we can work out the size of the room. (6.3m x 3m. Then multiply the answer by 25. So 18.9x25=472.5w) this will give you the amount of watts required as a rough guide for the room. Obviously layers of light are best so, the down lights over the worktops are a great place to start. Pendants, which can be switched separately to the down lights, over a table are good too. Under cabinet lighting and even lighting the plinths of the kitchen units at ground level or above the wall units add another dimension to the 'normal' look. Floors and ceilings are great for diffusing and reflecting light. Kitchens are always places where we struggle with shadows so again the spotlights over the worktops are best to help avoid this, but at the same time don't forget the rest of the room. You can always take light away, but to add it at a later stage is much much harder. Dimmable LED's will allow you to play more again with the lighting in the kitchen area if you choose to go for the option with more down lights. Consider the separate switching idea. There will be times when you want to make that last cuppa in the evening and the last thing you want is to walk in switch on the light and everything comes on at once! Romantic dinners, hectic family dinner times or a party are all different times when different levels of light are needed. Sorry that's a lot of info in a small space of time! But your right there is lots to be considered and you want to get it right. Help need urgent advice on laminate as carpenter due back in morning

Ah Ribena, sorry to not update before! I think I am still a little traumatised :-) I gave the carpenter strict instructions to do the final room in a staggered format. He even laid out a couple of rows and I was certain he understood what I meant. Then to my horror I saw the job later when he had done 2/3 and the joins were in alignment again!!! Not every other row as before but every third. My heart sank and I had to get him to redo it the next day, and I am the one who has to foot this mistake! I wasted close to £160 for an extra day of labour. He has redone it although there are some pattern repeats right next to each other! He works for a friend of my family so it is awkward. I have covered over the joins in the other bedroom with rugs but I still dislike it. He said it would probably take him half a day to redo it so another £80. Really not sure which way to go Also after all that, I am not sure I like the laminate anyway which is really frustrating, wish I had the budget to have gone for engineered wood. I chose a smooth Quick Step (Impressive range so around £21 a sq m) in oak to try and match the look of real parquet I have in the hallway. Wish I had got a more pronounced grain now! Now wondering what style of rug can put down to soften it. Have a kingsize in there and wondering whether to put two separate rugs down side or one large one underneath? Sorry, you did ask!!!

Sorry, I mistook the tile cement for grouting! I think you could put a single or double row of the tiles horizontally as a "border" to finish off the splashback. The ideal would be if the grout lines between the horizontal tiles match up with the vertical grout lines...
