Granite worktops all round, or a mix of granite and laminate?
Comments (10)Hello haylescakes, I think it just need a bit of care.. I would definitely not mix it.. Granite, like Marble or any other luxury stone, even woods do need some attention.. I have bamboo and that too requires a bit of effort.... Wiping down and a regular re oil.. However I think it is really really worth it. Also it does last and would definitely look all the better for the little bit of effort.. I also made several chopping boards with off cuts!! Gr8 way to use up the material and useful too! For colours I would look to finding something lighter than black.. I think you could really go for something amazing... Firstly though think of the colours in the kitchen... If it's a blank canvas, so to speak and any colour would work... Ie you have white worktops... Then really go for something striking... I have just found a few colours from a company online that are quite interesting..I'd say do some research into pricing and ask for samples.. Or visit a showroom to get an idea... Get as many samples as you need before deciding.. I think the more natural looking as possible... Some of them can look manufactured.. You could also add a small splash back panel.. Narrow is quite tasteful, the have a really chalky matt paint on the walls and matt paint for the cupboards..... Lastly think of finish.. squared off edges are in my eyes more tasteful.. but you can look at that and decide what you like the look of :)) Cosmic black... Comments (1)Hi Craig, Sorry you've had this problem how frustrating. It's not right we definitely wouldn't accept this. Granted there are times when cut can create a weak spot and they should warn/advise you of this but the different thicknesses are not acceptable. Even if the walls were out there would just be more resin/caulk filler behind the joint. The splash back isnt right either it should all be flush against the sides. It's deflating when you've been looking forward to it being finished and to have to make a call now to get it sorted is time consuming and frustrating. Good luck and hope you can get it sorted All the best Jason...See MoreWorktop Help - Modern Kitchen Granite?
Comments (4)On a purely aesthetic level the granite can definitely work in a modern kitchen. That stone is lovely so personally I would just choose the one you like the most. I would add the following though - There is a big trend for quartz now that looks like marble - the main reason being that as a rule of thumb natural stone (not just marble) that is light in colour tends to be more porous than darker stone. Porous means possible stains and marks from things like oil and even water. Natural stone is sealed with a sealant to attempt to overcome this but it isn't always 100% successful. Quartz however doesn't need sealing so it tends to be easier to maintain but some brands may be slighlty more susceptible to chipping. Speak with your stone supplier for clarification to help you decide....See MoreMixed kitchen worktops in small(ish) kitchen
Comments (7)Thanks ‘Man about the house’, we hope to house the boiler, but as it’s non-standard size (it’s a commercial sized boiler) we are exploring doing a bespoke cabinet with a standard door but this depends on the cost! I like the idea of a light and airy kitchen - will definitely explore this. For cabinet doors, am now thinking perhaps f&b ammonite coloured doors but worried that grey won’t be in fashion in a few years so perhaps looking at colours that are more classical/light such as f&b old white or James white. Currently testing these colours on our kitchen wall! Will post pictures when am home....See Morelouiseaholly
