Hallway ideas!

Hello I was wondering if anyone could give me some inspiration I've got a large hallway with a black chaise sitting at the right side of the wall and just wanting something black/silver mirrored with a contrast in the corner under the stairs I was thinking of a small console table on the back wall under the stairs

ith 2 black lamps or would a corner table/stand like the one in the picture look better with a lamp on top? Any ideas?

Hi Marie,

I like your idea of a small console table against the stair wall, something like the EICHHOLTZ CONSOLE TABLE BEAU DECO or the EICHHOLTZ CONSOLE TABLE TENNANT would look great, as I'd say the corner table/stand in your picture is too small. I wouldn't over crowd a small console with too many lamps, I'd suggest a mirror or painting above and a flower arrangement and/or photo frames on the console. You could then have a floor lamp in the corner, something like the EICHHOLTZ FLOOR LAMP REGIS possibly. I hope that gives you some ideas. PB

Thankyou your ideas are great. I'm liking the Lamp in the corner idea next to the small console that would look really nice.

Hubby is an engineer and whilst he is too busy doing what he does... I am fed up with his stuff in the hall. He won't put them in the garage because - as he says - they may be needed.... So...Having moved them out of a kitchen cupboard to the hall... My dilemma is how can I box them in too compliment my hall table? Or... Where else can I move them to without causing grief to the 'man' LOL....

Hi Angela. It all looks a bit dark and gloomy at the moment but you have got some nice features, slate floor, bannisters to work with. I’m sure your husband would be most pissed off if you asked him to remove the dado he has just put up, there is nothing wrong with dado rails, they are traditional. So painting the woodwork white. I would start with skirting, door architraves, front door and dado as it is visually splitting the room in two. Choose different colours for below and above dado, darker below and lighter above, someone suggested choosing colours from the slate which seems an excellent idea. Definitely replace carpet on stairs to neutral sisal or similar. If budget allows replace the hall door for something simpler and less busy (like kitchen door maybe). You may get away with not painting balusters if you make the other changes you would have to judge once the walls are done and carpet samples to hand. A narrow console or radiator cover with mirror above would bounce light around too. Best of luck!!

Lovely hall. I'm not sure if this is your thing but I think F&B setting plaster (pink in 2nd pic) looks really nice against white and off black so just thinking you could paint the internal doors (would also tie in with your sofa). The logical place for a slim console seems next to the front door as there's a plug socket for a table lamp but I was going to suggest some form of wooden bench ( a reclaimed one would look lovely) to the left of the front door as it's handy for putting on shoes but I'm not sure if the hall is wide enough? If not, you could add a radiator shelf instead? Brass mirror and some good quality faux stems for the table. I've got vintage coolie hats on my stairs wall which could tie in with your lights but art would obviously also work! I would also paint the panel (?) next to the front door in the wall colour

I remember when the modern WM collection came out and thought they were stunning. I can't really see upstairs walls properly as to suitability for wallpaper but the one to the left of the stairs on the ground floor would look great. You could consider applying decorators varnish (polyvine) over the top to protect the paper from getting dirty? Test a piece first though. Also choose a scrubbable paint for the other walls, something like Little Greene intelligent eggshell is great (although the slight sheen will show up any plaster Imperfections but it will also bounce a little light). I like the rugs although do see Sonia's point re the ground floor one 😂 Great idea for books/display. Just thinking as you're decorating anyway you could install downlights and keep the pendants rather than run other lights off it? I'm not a huge downlights fan but they do serve a purpose! Maybe run them off a separate switch to the pendants?

If you're looking to play around with the idea of having a floor lamp, here's some designs you could possibly go for.

Blossom 1 Light Floor Lamp with Pleated Shade - Chrome

You could also try filling up the space with plants? They'll add a refreshing touch and are perfect since spring is just around the corner.
