Decorating a whole flat at once: how to choose colours which flow?
Comments (16)It definitely helps if you choose an overall color scheme for your flat. If you have one major scheme, and all your colors go well together, that will create a cohesive feel for your flat. You can definitely match your accessories (pillows, art, curtains, etc.) to your overall color scheme, but you don't have to. If your big pieces (couch, furniture, bedding, rugs, kitchen features) match your general colors you'll be fine. Basically, don't feel like you have to match every single thing in your house to one of five colors. Choose paint colors and the big things in a coordinating scheme, then don't be afraid to add touches of something different to each room. You don't have to stress so much about matching if your rooms have a cohesive feel. Another way to accomplish that is choosing an overall style for your home. I.e. don't have an ultra modern dining room and a southern traditional living room. They won't feel like they fit together. If you tend to like contemporary pieces, aim for that style in every room of your flat, not just one or two. This even comes down to the details - I noticed you have some pretty ornate molding in the room with the red wall. If you like traditional styles, keep it! If you like modern, replace it will something more simple and streamlined. If you're not sure, post some of your favorite rooms and we'll help you figure out your style. Also, I would suggest using lots of lighter, soft colors in a flat that is north-facing. The light, bright colors will keep a room from looking too gloomy. Dark accents are fine to balance it out, but you won't want a lot of heavy, dark wood pieces to darken the space too much. Your light countertops are a great way of keeping the light colors in the kitchen. Try to keep the bigger pieces in lighter to medium dark colors, rather than the black/brown end. I think your couch will be just fine - it's a great neutral. Just add some light accent pillows....See MoreIs a sisal carpet a bad idea??
Comments (13)I would think it over thoroughly. It could be very uncomfortable on your feet, and If you have pets, hair would not just simply be vacuumed out. I think stairs could pull it off, but I don't think a large area would be good for it. Also, with kids, if you were to stain it on accident, that wouldn't be fun I clean. Hope this helped!...See MoreKitchen ideas for my small LG open plan flat
Comments (3)What a lovely thing to able to plan a new home! Wish you lots of luck, there is nothing much wrong with the kitchen as it is, so I would try living in the space for a while before taking the sledgehammer to anything. It doesn't look as though the light is being blocked by the high kitchen units so maybe they could stay and have a wider surface fitted so that you could have a breakfast bar on the other side and do away with the dining table area. You could use the tall wall cupboard system that Ikea do to combine extraction and storage above the cooker. If you like wood, take a look on ebay for iroko worktops they are really lovely and chunky and look better as they age. The doors you can change easily for something funkier try kitchenwarehouse uk online for a great range of replacement doors. If you want something boho they do a range of glossy doors in contemporary colours. You could have a boho look just by putting some colourful glasses in the see-through cupboard and lighting it. Hope your move goes well, give it time to settle in and you can have fun with the space on any size of budget....See MoreNeed ideas for upgrading a boring beige granny-student flat
Comments (6)Just a quick question..................what's in the store room and is it big enough for the office? If it's in storage in a little flat...............do you need the stuff in the store more than office space? There's just a little too much in the lounge. The chest in the window is nice, but would be better with a grey and white colour scheme if it were dark wood. You don't need the side table as you've got a coffee table and it's stopping the sofa from being placed in the middle of the wall. Does the little side table fit in the bay? If not, then maybe that should go. The magazine rack maybe could go at the wall end of the sofa if you bring the sofa away from the wall and then it's hidden. The little blue chair is too much and isn't helping the 'lining the walls' placement of everything. The book cases although functional are out of place in style, so yes they could get painted to tie in with the sofa and a wall colour maybe. If they're the same colour as the wall they'd stand out less. The one at the T.V end of the table needs moving to the other side of the table and pinning to the wall as it's leaning and dangerous. They're not the most substantial of pieces at the best of times, but a corner would support it better. Maybe you could change the two book cases for one, and have it as a screen for the office? The footstool is non-functional so needs to go. You can bring the t.v unit back out from the corner also and to match the placement of the sofa opposite and paint that too. It really needs to be dark to match the table in the bay and the other furniture like the chest in the bay and the sideboard in the hallway. I like the idea of the painted table and the grey sofa. The Texas sofa bed is wrong for the style of the other furniture you're going with. I actually like the sofa that's in there more than the other two you've chosen. Something more like this would work with the grey and white and dark brown wood. That one granted is expensive, but lots can be found for cheaper than that, especially scout around on Ebay and the local Facebook pages, you never know what you're gonna find, and it's always fun getting a bargain! All of that will go great with your choice of chandelier....See More
