Decorating ceiling help!!
Comments (2)For freshly plastered walls and ceilings, you have to put a coat of watered down paint on first, this is called your wash coat and it "seals" the plaster. Your ceiling is looking patchy which could be because your paint is soaking into the plaster at different rates, or if the paint you are using is kitchen/bathroom paint there is a "sheen" to the paint, even though it is described as "matt" paint and the sheen is picking up undulations in the surface of the plaster, from the light in your room.. It's going to be a big job, but I would sand your ceiling first, which should take off the undulation and provide a key to the surface of your ceiling, then put on your wash coat, then normal coat, then the finish coat.. I've found that Wickes basic white emulsion is liquid enough to count as a wash coat, so with Wickes paint you might be able to do those two steps (wash coat and normal coat) in one, as you have put a few coats of paint on already. Comments (8)Hello Molly, any of the above ideas would suit it simply depends on your tastes. If you put shelves up you will have to put stuff on them to make it feel right - if you have have many books or nick nacks then perhaps limit the shelving. Pictures are always great - they add interest and can add colour. Yasmina's feature wall is fantastic and super bold but you have to be comfortable with it. A wall of old mirrors can look fantastic - reflects light and movement from outside. Your clock looks lost I'm afraid - a wall of retro clocks on the other hand... I really like the colour of settee - anything can go with it and you can add a pop of colour with a cushion or two, rug, flowers etc. It seems that you are not sure what you would like, so I would suggest you start doing some research to find out what you are drawn to. Look on house at ALL styles. Look in interiors magazines and just start collecting a few ideas. You will be drawn to something - its just a matter of working out what it is - then building on it. At the moment the room is very minimal in terms of its contents - it might be that you don't like clutter at all and simply need a key standout piece placed correctly to add that wow factor. Hope this helps, Let us know how you get on. Lauren...See MoreKitchen lean to extension, interior walls removed, outside WC convert
Comments (43)I can imagine you must be demoralised because you can’t afford what you were dreaming of but I have got to say I get excited about this kind of house, it’s amazing high ceilings and finding one at an end so the garden is not shaded is brilliant. I think you could have a beautiful space if you put bifold doors between the kitchen and the lean to, raise the floor in the lean to so it’s the same height as the kitchen and have the same flooring for a feeling of continuity. The bifolds satisfy building regs as you don’t need to rebuild the lean to, you have a dining space for all but the coldest days and when it is cold you just close the bifold doors....See MoreMy Bespoke Room
