Kitchen doors and storage

Hi Everyone

The kitchen in my new house is a bit old womanish and doesn’t have enough storage space. What can I do with the right hand side? How can I maximize the storage potential here by using the space between the top and bottom cupboards which end in the same place (I need a couple more drawers and more cupboard space. I will need to use prep surface but that is OK. I would like to change the doors for something more shaker or streamlined. I live in a 1930s house. Is there a company that would make me/supply some quality doors and sort the storage issue?

There are lots of companies who can supply the doors.

If you want more storage swap some of the base and wall units for larder units. They hold a wealth of items but of course you will be minus the worktop. If you're only using that particular area to store items on then it won't matter as you can put them in the larder unit.

Well you can make up a pull out shelf like that with the drawer runners available on hafele and they do the shutter units too ?! About 15 years ago you could get sprung pop up shelves for mixers etc - but most companies withdrew them as they weren't stable enough .... Try popping into 'Magnets' or 'Wren' to see if they do them still ?

I love all those. I'm another one who has the dryer over the washed (both with doors on) for convenience and to save space. Larder units with chrome pullouts is also a favourite.

I don’t think it makes a jot of difference where you store bread. It still goes stale at the same rate. A sliced loaf is thrown to the birds after 3-4 days in our house. Even bread that’s frozen does not taste the same as bread freshly purchased. What exactly do you mean by bread storage? Longevity or a storage container?

Is the kitchen already installed? If not, they could fit top boxes to fill the gap to the ceiling. Be mindful - they are of limited use for actual day to day storage as they're too high. I have them in my kitchen with ceiling 2.7m+ but I mainly use the top boxes for Christmas decorations.

Larder units are fantastic for mass storage. We have an article here that explains what all the different types of larder unit are. You may lose a bit of work space, but you’ll gain much more. Have a read and see what you think.
