kitchen floor advice please!
The boards down now are running in opposite directions and are not worth saving.
I like the idea of stone flooring but worry about it being cold and have also thought about parquet as it might not look as odd? What direction would you position wood flooring? Any ideas of suggestions would be hugely appreciated!! X

Comments (11)I'm with Minnie101 and Provencale in that with base units in the top shade you'd need a darker, contrasting shade to avoid something "almost but not quite" blending in. If you see the opposite in effect here, where the client wanted to use a very light tile with a beige unit (a very tricky combination) we spent time looking at the 2 colours next to each other but held at 90 degrees so we could see what the contrast was between the flat floor tile and the vertical panels etc. It turned out to be just enough to create a difference of tone....See MoreFlooring for our kitchen. Lots of the kitchens we're doing for clients now are ones with painted finishes and although (as mentioned above) this isn't the most classic style/a bit old fashioned it will look completely different painted. Comments (19)Thank you for all your responses. My preference is matching splash back to the bench-tops. The trouble is the size of these laminate splash back comes in are 3000mm x 600mm or 1500mm x 1210 mm - I will require at-least 3100mm by approx 695 mm (h) as all units are set a little bit higher due to the minimum requirements for gas hob clearance. I opted all units to be set higher as I wanted streamlined look hence I am looking at a minimum of 2 joins. Would 2 joins on a laminate splash back look okay? Or would it be too obvious. ( I will of course ensure the joining material glue or whatever is called is matched to the laminate colour?) Thank you...See More

We agree that parquet flooring is a nice idea to help create flow throughout the space. It's also very much on trend, and timelessly stylish too! We'd recommend laying the pattern direction along the length of the hallway and then continuing this direction into the other rooms. The hallway is, after all, where first impressions are made so we'd suggest getting it just how you like it in this room first of all. The second and third mages from Man About the House show the flow well.
Alternatively, you could go for parquet in your hallway and planks in your kitchen, in the same colour of wood - the colour flows but this mixes up the pattern a little and gives you the chance to choose your preferred direction in each room.
