How do I make this look better?
Comments (44)For a quick, easy and cheap facelift you'll be amazed how far a clean-up alone will go. Jet wash the wall and the driveway setts. Put a lick of paint on the ironwork, black would definitely be good. Brush in fresh kiln-dried sand between the setts. Prune back those sad looking shrubs before they get back into growth, which will be any time now. Don't cut back those firs, they will not grow back and are likely to just die. If you do anything at all with them, get rid and plant something which grows more happily in this country. It's a low definition photo so I can't see the state of the lawn or whether the wall needs re-pointing. Look yourself and treat accordingly. That alone will lift the place sufficiently to give you breathing space. Then you can think through what budget you have left and which of the many ideas available you prefer and can prioritise accordingly. On the other hand, whatever you do will not look good while all that looks scruffy and unloved....See MoreWhat Can We Do With A Kitchen Window

Comments (7)Thanks for your help guys. This is a bit of an old photo so we’ve added some raised beds in the area in front of the outbuilding, we’re also going to add in a proper stone sett path next year. We‘re half way through converting part of the building into a chicken coop (we crazy) so we‘re in two minds about whether gravel will be suitable in front of the shed so we will see. I think I plan on recladding the shed with unpainted feather edge boards which will help. I’m also thinking of changing the door and windows to a light colour, perhaps white. Good point about the roofline, it’s rather close to the door so that might look silly. You've given me lots to think about, I’ll post an update soon....See MoreHelp, how do I make our kitchen look less dull? Pic below.
Comments (35)If this is a short term fix, I'd try to find a fabric to tie in those terracotta ties with the off white paint you're using elsewhere and just put a simple roman blind (it doesn't need to work) at the window. Something like this will tie in and has the grey of the floor. We moved last year and I'm sorting out building work - in the meantime I've added nice curtains and blinds and it's meant I don't mind living with it. And I think the open shelves alongside the window will make an enormous difference in taking the eye away from the tiles....See Morewhinefest
