Comments (18)Hi! This room looks like it's part hallway too, is it possible to have the TV under the stairs? And if the room is just a snug for adults do you really need both sofas? Consider removing one if possible and if you move the TV under the stairs it gives most distance and Will really help the room look bigger. I'd paint it a white colour and really brighten it up. Get a nice big mirror on the wall where you said the sun shines to help bounce the light around the space. I think if you go light on the walls your flooring is fine, invest in a comfortable rug to go just slightly under your sofa where you prefer to sit. Add some greenery to breath life into the space and really freshen and brighten it up. And since its a cosey snug type room consider some cushions of a nice accent colour and adding a chunky knit throw. You can always stick to neutrals. Comments (4)I personally would paint all the woodwork white or off white including the fireplace surround. A mishmash of colours will look disjointed. As to wall colour a very pale duck egg could work. Dulux Ocean Ripple is a lovely pale hue. If you want a more definite blue, then F&B Oval Room Blue is lovely but quite dark. One thing I would do is take the tie backs off the curtains, open the curtains right back, and let them hang straight down. Comments (3)Choosing art is a very personal thing. I have a couple of generic suggestions that would work in the space - a large mirror in a nice frame or a gallery wall with black and white photos of family and friends in random frames purchased from charity/second hand shops. 7 years agoHi guys, I visited the show home today to take a few pictures, not sure if I like the way this has been decorated, I do like the sofa along back wall as I think it's the only way I could make it work with a tv on wall I guess, what's your thoughts?

The kitchen diner is the opposite side of house.

7 years agoHi Alex. I assume you're buying new furniture? I'd swap the show room layout and have a long sofa between the 2 windows so the tv isn't the first thing you see, maybe consider a colour that will blend the sofa into the walls. I'd also add a snuggle sofa in the bay although pulled away from the window a little but consider the measurements so the arms of both sofas aren't overlapping. You could either go for a slim upholstered footstool or glass coffee table in front of the large sofa which are less visually imposing. I'd wall mount the tv opposite the large sofa with slim floating storage beneath, perhaps something like this photo but there are lots of ideas on houzz as to how make a feature of this. You could also add an accent chair with a floor lamp behind it angled towards the sofa somewhere towards the top right corner as you look at the plan. Re flooring I would look at wood effect luxury vinyl such as karndean or amtico, I think they're far less prone to scratching so ideal for dogs. A herringbone parquet pattern may make the room feel wider. Mirror/s on the long walls will also make the room feel wider but consider whether you want the tv reflected or not.

I agree with Minnie, that a herringbone luxury vinyl floor would be nice and practical.
For a rug you could go for two of the same high pile ones, so you can't really see the join, to keep the cost reasonable. Ikea has Besta units that you can hang on the wall. That, or something that's on legs, would be a good choice. If you can see the floor under it, it makes the room look larger.
Two chairs, a couple of small tables, maybe a row of three square ones. A large plant in the bay window, some floor lamps.

Carolina- wouldn't you put anything in the bay window? I was thinking maybe a accent chair?
I like the idea with 2 rugs, why the 3 tables instead of one coffee table? I'm no expert so I'm open to all ideas :)
Minnie/Carolina- I love the idea of parquet floor, I was going to get wooden floor though not vinyl, I was thinking doing the same throughout living room and hall, is it a bad idea to get wooden floor with my dog?
Maybe something like the attached top right hand corner and a 2 seater in the bay window with a 4 seater along the back wall or would that be overcrowded?
