Buyer's regrets
Comments (5)Blimey where do I start?!? My outgoing car was the biggest but that's for another forum.. tom Dixon type copper ball pendant - just shone a small gold beam of light into the table and nothing else. Long gold-ish sheen curtains across an entire wall covering the back patio doors - made the room look tiny, lasted a few months White high gloss coffee table - a small lounge and I realised I should have bought a clear glass one (which I now have) My white Ivory carpets throughout my house - looks good in the magazines but carpet cleaner is out every 2 months. A big wall mural type wall paper of the japanese wave in the spare room - looked rubbish I'm already a bit bored of my George Nelson eye clock A few art prints which looked awful in the flesh, too big I'm about to get rid of my large 80s swatch maxi wall clock, just looks too OTT Pretty much every plant I ever put in the back garden, I can't leave a garden centre without buying a plant! All my plumen pendants (qty 4) which are slowly but surely going!! They are too low and even I head butt them, I'm only 5'6". They look rubbish if hung too high up with a short drop! Various small lamps and fixtures along the way. Not to mention the useless kitchen gadgets. I'm so indecisive, thank god for ebay, which is where most of it ends up!...See MoreKitchen help - what can we do to make it look better?
Comments (65)Depending on how far you budget goes, I would look at adding traditional cornice and pelmet and replacing the plinth with a similar oyster colour. End panels for wall units could also be replaced / added. Some chessboard style tilling in 3 colours would also bring out the walls. It's hard to tell but is the oak surround also on the wall units? I haven't checked your location but this is something we can help with...See MoreHelp! What are your top tips for shopping 2hand furniture online?
Comments (8)My biggest tip is do not do any online shopping when you've had a few, unless you want to experience the pleasure/pain of checking your eBay account to see "Congratulations you are the winning bidder" only to realise that the item is at the opposite end of the country, the seller does not arrange transport and you don't even remember why you wanted it. (Or is that just me). Other things would be to ask the seller to confirm the measurements (especially where a few millimetres difference would be critical) and hope that they can read a tape measure properly. Don't be afraid to ask for additional photographs including close-ups, if the seller can't be bothered, then don't be too sure that the item is as described, a description saying good condition can be subjective and don't forget that the camera can lie, especially with colours. If you are looking for something fairly commonplace then it can be worth waiting for it to turn up close enough to home, so that you can try to have a look before committing yourself; for the rare items you may have to take a chance, the worst case is that if you really don't like it you might have to sell it on again. And last of all, if it seems too good to be true, it usually is....See MoreWhat colour rug/s and furniture
Comments (31)I think you feel it looks too solid is because you haven’t followed through with the rest of the room, for example cushions to tie in with it. Further up these comments minnie101 has suggested some black patterned cushions which i think would lift the scheme, however if you really don’t like it then follow your heart and return it. Why keep something you don’t like? Then choose a colour-way that you prefer, such as the blue you suggested. A blue coastal theme would tie in nicely with the neutral theme you have at the moment. By the way, i got a Turkish rug from Olney Carpets in Bucks, and they let us take it home for a week to see if we liked it before buying! True service, and yes we did buy it! Of course buying online does give you that option too. I wish you lots of luck....See MoreUser
