Need help with the location of cooker in my new kitchen
Comments (27)I think that sofa shape will not suit your new space very well...but slow down and dream!rome wasn't built in a day!i would work on the kitchen plan...forget about the sofa.the kitchen is permanent...the sofa or location of sofa is not!...Kitchen...function first, then form.If you are not planning on this being your forever home...then don't spent money on moving the boiler, or plumbing or electrics as much as possible (unless there are huge gains to be had in terms of function). Also I think you'll be surprised how much more room there actually is once that wall comes down.I vote to keep the breakfast bar as I think it will really define the space....See MoreKitchen help please! Help with colours etc for a small update.
Comments (31)I had a similar situation in a house I moved into years ago. I did a quick fix of painting all of the walls, woodword and the cupboards the same shade of cream. Sounds a bit OTT but it really knocked back the cupboards, which in all honesty are not something you want to make a feature out of, and created a calmness to the whole space. In your case, I would go for an off white so that the gang plug wires, radiator pipes and covers hiding the wires for the extractor fan etc., are disguised as much as possible -- that will tie in with the palest of the tiles in the splash back, and then you will have a pretty basic colour scheme of a very place colour and the dark worktop, fireplace and floor, which will stand out more. I think you need more storage with doors -- that bookshelf isn't doing anything for the kitchen. If you could get something in there that could hide lots of clutter -- even if just something cheap from IKEA, that would help greatly. Or work something around the filing cabinet that you have? A huge cheap mirror over the fireplace would bounce some light around too. If you don't want to go for undercupboard lighting, and if you have enough plug points, how about some lamps on the worktop, especially at the FF end with a floor standing lamp at the end with the chair. For the table, I would go for a table cloth and reupholster the chairs if they are not to your taste. A new blind in a much fresher colour would be great. Depending on the colour of your filing cabinet (if you use it), I think a petrol blue could add a nice vintage vibe to the chimney breast, and make more of a feature of it. I would try and go down a vintage/slightly industrial route rather than country. You may have some stuff lurking around that you could use, once you have got the base colours right -- currently it just feels a little cluttered and a bit of a mish mash. Best of luck. Looking forward to seeing some after shots :)...See MoreNeed help for my small living/dining room with awkward layout
Comments (10)Hi. It's hard to tell if this will work as I can't tell the door width but what if you were to build a ŵall to wall bookcase on the desk ŵall incorporating both the tv and radiator? Ignore the design of this one, was just showing a pic of one against a window, You may need to widen the pillar by the dining room entrance slightly. Perhaps ammonite by F&B for the ŵalls with a floor that picks up one of the tones in the table. I'd also paint the coving in the ammonite and a darker shade of grey for the bookcase. Have a 6ft sofa (allowing for side table and lamp) opposite the bookcase (not against the ŵall) with a chair angled in front of the bookcase and perhaps go for an upholstered stool on legs as per your inspiration pic. You could use Romans on the windows, maybe in a vertical stripe and then use geo patterns for the cushions. Re lights I'd add ŵall lights to the bookcase and a flush for the living room, preferably just 7 inches high. You can afford to hang something lower over the dining table. Are you keeping the tall cabinet? I think your current table will look lovely with some upholstered chairs...See MoreNeed help to use all the space in my small balcony
Comments (5)I have the following suggestions to improve the usable space and add some storage. Use deck chairs, they are comfortable and don't take up much space, when not in use they can hang on a wall outside. If you converted the patio doors to bi-fold door you would have more space on the balcony. This would allow for shelves on pillars to left and right. These shelves could be used for potted herbs, plant mint and make your own home grown Mojito. In the alcoves I suggest that two raised beds, these could have storage underneath. Again they could be used for herbs or grasses which do well on roof gardens and balconies. Put them on casters if there is glass behind that needs to be cleaned. If you use same material on balcony as the lounge, it will give the impression that the balcony is part of the lounge and vice versa.
