New bathroom

This layout is very similar to our bathroom which we are looking at redesigning to something like this. We have floor to ceiling tiles at the mo, would you keep these or would you have a non tiled area as you have, and how hard is this to change? As I really like the artwork on the wall as adds personality.

Hi There, I feel it is all personal taste, I wanted more wall space because of the amount of artwork we had and wanted to add a contrast against the tiles and as you said personality. I also think wall to ceiling tiles also look great! Nice and clean.

As far as changing this, tiles can easily be removed but it depends on the state of the wall underneath but is likely to need some plastering to create a flat surface again, which can add time and money to the project, but can be achieved easily.

The easiest optioni think, is to go to a bathroom showroom who will help you decide layout, fittings, tiles etc. They will have tradesmen to carry out the work. Or you could employ a plumbing company (no showroom) who again can help you with layout, but you buy your own fittings, say from a plumbers merchants (no showrooms but lots of catalogues to choose from). Tiling can be sourced from any tile shop and the plumbing company will have someone to do the tiling. Or you can buy everything yourself, decide your own layout and employ a plumber and tiler to carry out the work. When I did my shower room, I bought everything from a local plumbers merchant (lovely quality). I then employed a plumber to fit it, a plasterer to tidy the walls, a tiler and lastly had the flooring laid (vinyl). Cost was just under £6000. There may even be other options that Houzzers can suggest.

Time for a new bathroom…

Hi fellow Houzzers I’m renovating a bungalow and budget is now tighter than ever having carried out the full rewire, new heating, new hot water system, replastering, kitchen…etc. I now need to work on the bathroom. Image shows the plan of the current room which has an east facing window with a sill 1220 above floor level (the window is new and is fully obscured). There is a new door into the room, too, which is ivory and cream with horizontally banded wood pattern. The bath I would like to have is this https://www.cabuchon.com/product/takara-deep-soaking-bath-tub/ but I would also like a separate walk in shower. I do have mobility issues but it would be nice to have an occasional soak in a tub and this is the best and most appropriate tub I’ve found. The radiator is a standard 1980s panel rad which is the last one to be replaced and can be moved as long as I’m prepared to dig into the concrete screed (I’m not against doing that, though). Of the existing, water hungry, green sanitary ware, the sink, pedestal, wc and bath remain and we’ve taken out the bidet (next to the bath) already. There is a single switched ceiling light and a decent extraction fan in the ceiling. I do have a reasonably equipped en suite with a walk in shower that has a minimal height shower tray so time for completion for the main bathroom isn’t an issue. Thoughts on a layout? The measurements are reasonably accurate. Ideally, I wouldn’t like to sit in the tub with my back to the door!

Do you like patterned tiles at all? Doesn’t have to be garish and you can keep the pallet simple. I’m thinking tile the whole wall, the same width as the vanity unit, up to the ceiling, similar to first picture. Or if that’s too much, then just tile the space from the sink to the mirror. I would raise the mirror a little so that it doesn’t get too splashed.
